For the last couple of weeks, I've been thinking about what caused my family home to catch on fire. I asked my parents, but they just said it was a bad outlet that sparked and kept growing. I don't believe them though. My parents have been a part of the agency since I was born. Way before I was born actually, and this year was the first year I have seen them gone for such extended periods of time.
The agency called them a total of 15 times, and each time they would leave, the trip would be longer than before. They would only spend a few weeks, if that much, with us before being called back. No one questioned the agency. No one questioned our parents. We just accepted they had a job and needed to go when they were called. But I lost my daughter, and I can't help the feeling that the agency was somehow involved.
I needed to dig and find answers. I went to a local coffee shop that was across the street from the police station so I could get my answers. I couldn't just walk in there and ask for the records from the night my house went up in flames, but I could hack their system if I got close enough.
The door of the coffee shop chimed, and I look up to see Mini walking in. I looked at her confused because I wasn't sure why she was here.
"Fancy seeing you here," she says cheerfully.
"Mali, why are you here?"
"What do you mean why am I here? To see you of course." I roll my eyes as she slides in next to me. I don't move, so half her butt cheek is off the booth seat. "Via scoot." I stare at her a bit annoyed. "Please?" She grabs my face and starts kissing my cheek repeatedly. A smile rises on my face. She is too cute, and I can't help giving in to her. She and Rayden have been the best support system I could've ever asked for. Malia is a part of us now.
Rayden was hesitant at first because she didn't have the same feelings as I did for Mini in the beginning. To Ray, Malia was just a fun fuck. But to me...I don't know. I actually had feelings for her. I liked her a lot. So because I wanted her around so much, Rayden began to see things about her she didn't see before, and so her feelings for Mali grew.
It was weird at first seeing how Ray started to treat Malia once her feelings grew, but there is no jealousy between us. I think that's because we were friends with her first. Sometimes, the three of us hang out together, sometimes it's just her and Rayden, like when I didn't leave the apartment for weeks. Sometimes Ray and I would hang out alone, because we practically live together now, and sometimes, like now, Malia and I hang out alone. I like her a lot. Like a lot, a lot. I think she feels the same about Ray and I. Sex with her and Ray is just a bonus to me.
"Liv," she waves her hand in my face, holding on to the table, trying not to fall off the seat with the other hand.
"Fine." I scoot over, and she glances at my laptop with the black and green command screen up.
"What ya doing?"
"Malia, how did you find me?"
"I followed you here. You've been really distant with Me and Ray for the past couple of weeks. I know you lost Junie 2 months ago but.."
"But what? You don't know what it's like to lose your child Mini." My voice isn't loud. I just... I wish they'd understand that they don't know what it's like. I feel like the only people that might truly get it are Deleena and Rayden's Mama Josie. They've lost a child before. Grown their baby in their stomach, just for it all to get ripped away.
"No, I don't, and I'm not saying I do. All I want to know is why you are being so distant. What is it that you're doing that you can't let us in on?" I sigh. She's right. I mean, I haven't been that distant, right? I still go to school. Hang out with them. But my mind has been a bit preoccupied. Why did the fire happen? Why did I lose my child? Why are my parents covering up what really happened?
