Chapter 28
I had managed to make it through the rest of the day without crying. Once I let it all for those few minutes in my room, they didn't come back. It was mostly because I had to go to work and I didn't feel like getting stared at by strangers. Of course, I told Matty everything and he was so good about making me feel better. For moments he would just make me laugh and I would completely forget what was going around me.
The hours passed and then it was finally time to go home. This is probably one of the few times I wished I could still be working. I knew that once I was alone, I would lose myself in my thoughts.
When I made it to my street, I right away saw that Vic's car wasn't in his driveway. I couldn't careless where he was. Another thing I saw was that there was another car in my drive way. I had never seen it before.
I parked the bike and then made my way into the house. Chatter and laughter was heard from the dining room so I'm guessing mom had someone over. I walked closer and once I got to the dining room, I saw mom and a man. She was on a date.
"Kellin!" She said and smiled. "Steve, this is my son, Kellin."
"Nice to meet you, Kellin." The man said with a smile. "I'm Steve." The word 'business' screamed at his appearance. He wore black slacks with a white buttoned shirt, but no tie. His hair was short and dark black, and he had large blue eyes similar to mine. They were a darker shade of blue though.
"Nice to meet you too." I said, smiling lightly. He doesn't seem like a prick. "But uh, I guess I'll leave you all to your date."
Before they could even say anything, I turned on my heel and walked upstairs to my room. Immediately, I locked my door and threw my phone on my desk. I left the lights off and changed into some flannel pajama bottoms and an old t-shirt.
I was in no mood to do anything, so I just snuggled in the comfort of my bed. Twenty minutes might of passed of me watching TV when I heard a knock on my door.
"Kellin, can I come in?" My mother asked. I didn't want to speak to her, but it was better to talk to her than think of my problems.
I stood up and unlocked my door. She walked into my room and sat herself on my bed.
"You need something?" I asked and walked to her.
"Why would you think that? I just wanted to chat with you."
"Well you never do that so what am I supposed to think?" I said bluntly.
"Yes I do," she said.
"Actually, you don't. The only times you ask how I'm doing is when I ask you first."
"That is not true," she quickly defended.
"Yes, it is!" I raised my voice. "You're always too goddamn busy to even say hello to me."
"Watch your tone there, Kellin." She threatened but I just chuckled.
"Oh, I'm sorry for offending you with the truth. My bad."
"Kellin! What in the world is going on?" Her voice got louder with confusion.
"Like you care," I muttered.
"Yes, in fact I do care because you are my son."
"Well you know, maybe if you'd actually make time for your son, I wouldn't think like this. But no, you always have to be so goddamn busy!" I shouted.
"What are you talking about?" She said.
"You're never here for me anymore!" I let out all the anger building up inside of me. "Like, I get that your job is demanding, but there is a way to make time for your son. I mean, if you can make time for this Steve dude, you can make time for me. Now, don't get me wrong, but I'm actually happy that you're seeing someone. The thing that hurts is the fact that sometimes you make me feel like I'm nonexistent."
