CHAPTER NINE | THE DEVIL IS DAMNED

THANKFULLY, REBEKAH HAD RETURNED TO NEW ORLEANS IN THE BODY OF A WITCH. It was not that body that anyone had anticipated, that being Angelica Barkers, though the Mikaelson family were revealed that the Original was very much alive and well. Once she returned, she had also explained that she was trapped in the Fauline Cottage where a witch had helped her escape. However, Rebekah learned that her accomplice had turned out to be their long lost, older sister, Freya Mikaelson.
"That is just not my chin, Nik." Riley and Elijah heard Rebekah speak down the phone as they prepared to discuss Freya. "It was much more delicate."
"The only delicate thing about you, sister, is your ego." The Hybrid retorted back in his usual tone of voice that caused Riley's eyes to roll.
"When placed beside the behemoth size of yours, certainly."
A chuckle escaped Klaus' lips as his sister's remark, though Elijah didn't seem too impressed by the lack of production. "Could we dispense with this fascinating dispute for just a moment and return to the subject of our supposed long-lost sister?"
"Yeah. To be honest, I was rather intrigued. That was until you both started comparing the sizes of your egos." Riley trailed off, her eyes fixed on Elijah's phone which was on loudspeaker and laid on the table in front of them. "Then, I got bored."
"Well, there's not much to discuss. She said she was Freya and then darted off into the night."
Elijah continued to fold up one of Hope's many baby blankets whilst Riley raised an eyebrow. "And, you believe her?"
"I met the girl in a mystical loony bin. She could be anyone telling any lie, but she did seem familiar somehow." Rebekah's voice trailed off.
"Then how is she still alive?" Klaus snapped again. It was clear he hated the idea of family members being impervious to death. "A question as ridiculous as it's possible solutions, given this family's annoying predilection for cheating death."
"I don't know, Nik. I'm just telling you what she said."
Another irritated sigh left Klaus' lips. "Well, did you happen to ask, if by some similar miracle, our Aunt Dahlia lives, as well?"
"I barely had a chance to process—" The Mikaelson girl was quickly cut off by the Hybrid's fury once more.
"—Because on the list of obvious questions, it would be nice to know if the woman who placed a curse on the firstborns of this family is still breathing air!"
"Stop!" Riley snapped before either of the two could continue their argument. "Do you seriously think you two arguing about this is gonna help the situation? What's done, is done. Best thing we can do now is work out a solution."
