CHAPTER TWELVE | MOONLIGHT ON THE BAYOU

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

RILEY HAD RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM A FRIEND— ONE SHE THOUGHT WOULD NEVER DARKEN THE DOORSTEP OF NEW ORLEANS. She sat at the bar in St. James anxiously waiting their arrival, all whilst scrolling through social media. Caroline had kept her somewhat in the loop of the goings-on in Mystic Falls, but since she had the twins, the weekly updates had grown a little sparse.

Riley's attention shot up from her phone the moment Stefan Salvatore wandered through the door. She knew that Stefan was on the run from a vampire hunter, and St. James was free from magic— meaning he would be safe.

"Oh! It's so good to see you." The strawberry-blonde exclaimed as she jumped up from the bar stool and hurried toward him. The vampire wrapped her arms tightly around Stefan's neck whilst his rested against her waist.

"And you. I wish the circumstances were better, but you know." Stefan chuckled quietly as the two took their seats at the bar.

"Mm, I heard." Riley's eyes flickered up to the waitress at the bar and pointed to her glass, then lifted her fingers to indicate she wanted two drinks. "On the run from a vampire hunter. Never a dull moment with you, is it?"

"Let me guess— Caroline?" Stefan asked whilst the vampire nodded in response. "Yeah. Well, St. James is free from magic and you're here. So, the positives out-way the negatives. How are you doing?"

"Aside from dying, I'm actually doing amazing. Coming here was one of the best decisions I have ever made."

Stefan noticed there was a constant glow about her. Something he had never really seen before. "You look happy."

Riley let a small smile creep onto her face as their drinks were slid in front of them until they were interrupted by Stefan's phone ringing. It was Damon, but he swiftly pressed ignore. "You don't have to do that. I'm over it— over him."

"As much as I would love to say I did it for your benefit, I can't. He's, uh— he's the reason I'm being hunted down like an animal by this damn hunter." Stefan shrugged after taking a large gulp from his bourbon. "I did it to save him."

"As per."

"Stefan Salvatore in the Crescent City. This ought to be very good, or entertainingly bad." Klaus' voice echoed as he approached the pair at the bar. His eyes fell to Riley. "You didn't tell me Stefan was in town."

"Well, I'm just in town for a little R&R and to see my friend. Hate to disappoint." Stefan gave a tight-lipped smile to Klaus, neglecting to mention the fact he was running from a hunter.

"Sylvia, this is an old friend. Please, keep his cup brimming." Klaus told the bartender.

"Mm. Cute old friend. Where have you two been hiding him?"
