CHAPTER TEN | PHANTOMESQUE

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

FOR RILEY, IT FELT LIKE THOSE FIVE YEARS PRIOR ALL OVER AGAIN. To be without her soulmate was something that the Evans girl was unwillingly becoming accustomed to. She hated living without Elijah, but she had to be strong for Avery, who was intent on preparing a welcome-home feast for him with the help of Hope.

"I miss you. So much." Riley whispered softly as she stared down at Elijah's desiccated body in the coffin. "I know this has nothing on those five years we were apart, but I think this is scarier. It's the thought of losing you. I'm terrified." The witch exhaled deeply whilst her hand brushed through Elijah's hair. "I swear I will kill everyone in this entire city if it meant getting you back."

With one final kiss against his head, Riley stepped out of the room and downstairs where Freya was preparing to jump into Elijah's subconscious and pull him out. "Freya, there are a thousand years of memories in there. How will you know which is the right one?" Hayley asked.

"He'll recognise me. If I can find the core of his being, or whatever memory he's clinging to, I'll pull him out." Freya assured them, a smile sent directly to Riley. "I need you to sustain the spell whilst I jump in."

"Just make sure you get him." Riley stepped over to the candles whilst Freya laid down in the circle of the chalk drawn circle. "Tillate Ulaz. Tillate Ulaz. Tillate Ulaz. Tillate Ulaz. Tillate Ulaz."

Riley was focused desperately on keeping the spell anchored whilst Freya sifted through Elijah's broken mind and the minutes that she was under felt like hours. The spell abruptly stopped as the candles blew out and a loud gasp escaped Freya's lips the minute she sat up.

Desperately, Hayley crawled over to the Mikaelson witch. "Freya, what's wrong?"

"I thought I found him but he just vanished right in front of me." She admitted hopelessly whilst she made her way up to her feet.

"What about me?" Riley suddenly suggested as all eyes widened. "You can anchor the spell and I'll go in and pull him out. He'll respond to me— I know it."

"She's right. If anyone can find him, it'll be Riley. He loves her."

"But, to place you inside the pendant I would need to channel another witch born of my families bloodline." Freya trailed off and both girls knew where it was headed.

"Hope." Hayley sighed. "No. She's too young for this."

"She's young, but she's strong. Stronger than I was at her age." Freya hurried over to Hayley. "I would never hurt my niece. Ever."
