The Stardust in his Veins

As my teacher stood at the front of the room explaining the concept of space and explosions of stars, I thought of how everyone was made of stardust one way or another. It toyed with my mind to think that one massive explosion caused the creation of an entire galaxy and made living, breathing human beings from practically nothing. Stardust is constantly flowing throughout our bodies. I had stardust gushing through my veins, Ren had stardust rushing through her veins, and Sam had stardust emanating from his very soul.

But then, if everyone had stardust in their bodies, so too does Nick. It was hard to think positively in the least about him.

He was almost proud of what he had done to me. Did he think it was funny? To impregnate his girlfriend and wait in juvy while she was giving birth to a human being?

After school was over, my anger poured out of me in bucketfulls, and I got to Nick's as fast as I could manage. I was on a rampage and I was afraid I might interrupt the good weather with my storming pace.

Nick always locks his door, so there was an awkward pause as I impatiently waited for him to answer the door. He seemed to purposefully be moving as slow as possible just to make me angry. Well, it worked.

His smile was present as he flung the door open, but it was quickly stomped out as he saw the pure hatred in my eyes. I swear he almost felt the burn of my glare. "Uh oh. Here comes the crazy ex-girlfriend" he said trying to crack a joke. His smile faded once more as he realized how angry I was. "Brin what-" he tried to say before I cut him off abruptly.

"I can't believe you" I nearly screeched at him. "And here I was thinking that you had changed. You're just the same manipulative liar I knew before." Somehow anger came gushing out of me from what seemed like nowhere.

"Brin what are you talking about?" I could tell Nick was starting to become angry as well, but that only made my rage grow.

"You don't regret sneaking me out to a party and getting insanely drunk?" I screamed, pushing past him into the apartment. Nick was speechless as I started gathering Ren's things. "You don't regret the bruises and the dislocated shoulder you caused me?" I pointed to my arm which ironically was the same arm with a brace over it. So your apologies were just a whole bunch of lies?"

Nick was motionless and for the slightest second I wondered whether or not he was even breathing. I quickly finished shoving Ren's things into the small bag and stomped over to the kitchen where Ren, who was in the middle of playing with one of her newer toys, was starting to cry. I picked her up with my good arm and headed to the front door while Nick stuttered useless apologies. "Brin, that's not what I meant. Please just listen to me. I'm sorry."

I elbowed him in the chest with my bad armed to get by him and out the door. "Nick, don't bother waiting for Ren tomorrow. I don't think she'll be coming back." I regretted the words the second they escaped my lips.

Nick's eyes glazed over before I slammed the door in his face and receded down the hallway. Nick didn't try and follow, so when I reached the staircase I put Ren down and pulled out my phone. I quickly called Sam.

"Brin, where are you? I went by the school and you weren't there."

"I'm at Nick's can you come pick me up?" I said in a strained tone.

It didn't take any convincing at all for Sam to get over in less than seven minutes. He stepped out of the car with a worried look in his eyes. Every emotion I had locked inside me decided to come spilling out of me then.

Sam's arms were quickly there around Ren and I as I sobbed into his shoulder. Ren started crying then as well and Sam just as quickly took her from my arm. Yes, things will work out just fine.
