I got in my car and drove to Matt's house.

When I showed up, I looked in the mirror. I wiped away my tear stained eyes and got out of the car to walk to his doorstep.

I knocked quietly at his giant wooden door. Only seconds later, I saw the door handle turn.

I looked at Matthew as the door opened. He looked as if he has just cried too.

"Ava?" He asked in a small voice.

"Hey Matt." I said and sniffled my nose.

"Come in, please." He said and moved out of the way to let me in.

I took a step inside.

"What are you doing here?" He asked me.

"I read your letter."

He looked up at me.
"And?"

"And I believe every word that you wrote came from you. You sounded very truthful.

Matthew. I still love you and trust you." I told him.

A sense of relief seemed to come from Matthew.

"You do? Even after all I've done?"

I nodded my head.
"Matthew, I love you too much to not trust you."

A small smile came to his face.
"I love you too." He said.

"But Matt, everything can't go back to how it used to be."

His smile went away.
"What do you mean?"

"Even though I love and trust you, I still am nervous about being in a relationship. I don't want it to crash and burn again. I'm tired of feeling hurt.

I think we need to be just friends."

He sighed.
"If that's what you want." He was looking down at his shoes.

"It is. Thank you Matthew."

He nodded.

I gave him a hug and walked back out to my car.

I'm glad I worked that all out.

•next day•

I felt the sun shine hit my face as my alarm went off.

With my eyes closed, I tried to find my phone. Once I found it, I slid open the lock screen to silence the alarm.

I rubbed my eyes and began looking at my phone.

Basic boring stuff.

Selfie,
Food,
Tbt,
Family,
Selfie,
Ootd,
Selfie,
Boyfriend,
Selfie,
And did I mention another selfie?

I sat my phone down as Pandora began to play Last First Kiss by One Direction.

I got out of my bed as my toes hit the cold floor.

I picked out my outfit which was a pink and white striped top with dark wash jeans and some white converse. I fishtail braided my hair and put in my contacts. I put on some mascara and left for school.

When I got there, I saw Matt by my locker. I smiled and waved.

"Hey Matt." I said.

"Morning gorgeous." He replied.

"Matt, I said just friends."

"Just because we are friends doesn't make you any less beautiful." He responded.

I felt myself blush and quickly tried to change the topic.

"Ready for the big text today in history?" I asked him.

"We had a test?"

"Uh, yeah only the final that is worth 80% of our grade!"
How did he not know about this? I have been studying for weeks!

"Oh uh, I guess I will just wing it." He said and shrugged his shoulders.

"I am worried for you. You aren't going to pass if you don't start trying harder!"

"Don't worry! I'm fine. You do your thing and I will do mine." He said.

I sighed. Who is actually that carefree about grades?

When I sat down in first period, Nicole told me she wasn't going to be there because she was sick, so I just had Matt.

"Okay class, who is ready to take this final!" Out teacher said.

Everyone was silent.
"Oh, well I hope you all studied! This is a hard one."

I looked over at Matt. He wasn't paying one bit of attention. Soon, the tests began to get passed out.

It was 4 pages front and back! Most of them were multiple choice. That was good.

After about an hour of me filling in circles about the Vietnam War, I had finished my test.

Matt had finished over 20 minutes before I did.

"How did you finish so fast?" I whispered to him.

"I didn't really read the questions, I just picked the answer that sounded the coolest."

I felt my eyes widen.
"Goodness Matthew. I can't wait to see what you get on this test." I said and shook my head. As the bell rang.

I got up and gathered all of my stuff.
"Are you busy tonight?" He asked me when I opened the door.

"Uh, I don't think so, why?"

"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out? Ya know, go out to eat or something? As friends?"

I thought about it.
"Yeah, that sounds nice! I will meet you by my locker right?"

"Yup! See you then." He said and walked the other direction.

After my long (and terrible) day at school, I walked towards Ava's locker to pick her up.

She walked up looking perfect as always. I couldn't help but smile whenever I saw her.

This friend thing is going to be a huge challenge.

"Hey Ava!" I said when she reached her locker.

"Hello Matthew!" She responded with a beautiful smile.

She grabbed her backpack and shut her locker.

"Ready to go?"

I nodded my head and grabbed her hand.

She looked down and removed her hand from mine.
"Matt, we are friends okay?"

I sighed.
"Okay."

"So, where do you wanna go?" I asked her and opened the door to my car.

"I don't know." She answered.

Then I remembered her favorite place.
"Oh, I know where!" I told her.

"And where is it?" She asked.

"You will see when we get there!" I answered.

It wasn't fancy, but she loved it.

Only a little but later, we reached the drive-thru of Chick-Fil-A.

A smile came to her face.
"What! I can't believe you remembered that I loved it here!"

I laughed a little.
"Who could forget? You talk about craving this place every Sunday." I said.

She laughed. Her laugh was so adorable.

We ordered our food and then she grabbed the bag and began to open it.

"No no, you have to wait till we get home!" I said.

She made a pout face and sat the bag down.

I laughed at the sight of her sadness of food. It was so cute.

Now time to try to impress her to be my girlfriend again.

Because this friend thing,

It was torture.
