Cas woke up before Dean, as usual. He was definitely a morning person and he stretched his arms and legs in the warm sun shining through the bedroom window. Normally Cas would make breakfast before heading off to work at the local Gas n Sip, but today he was clocking in extra early so he could leave in time to get the house ready for Sam's visit that afternoon.
Castiel dressed himself and scrawled a quick note to Dean on a piece of notebook paper explaining his disappearance. He hung the note on the fridge while walking outside where the sun had just risen.
He stood for a minute, listening to the sounds of nature. It made Cas feel like a normal human. He stepped out into the street and walked towards his work. The Gas n Sip wasn't that far away. Normally Dean would drop him off on his way to work at the mechanics and auto body shop.
Castiel walked up to the convenience store and looked down. Before walking inside he redid the buttons on his blue vest. Castiel was greeted by his boss, Beth. "Mornin', Cash," she said, fiddling with the register.
"It's still Cas," he corrected, adjusting his name tag.
"Hmm? You need somethin', Cash?"
"It's Cas. There's no 'h'. It's short for Castiel."
"Sure, sure. Hey, Cash, could you check out the customer restroom. It think someone pissed on the floor."
"Yeah. I'll check it out." Castiel grabbed the dirty mop from the supply room and forced himself to walk into the bathroom. The smell was disgusting and Cas pinched his nose to block it out.
Dean woke up around seven. He pulled on some clean clothes and went down the stairs to get breakfast. He was surprised to be greeted by an empty kitchen as he was expecting Cas to be waiting for a ride to work.
Walking to the fridge, Dean noticed the piece of paper hanging on its front. He ripped it off the fridge and scanned the note. "Of course," he said to himself. "But why does he want to get home early? And how am I supposed to get off early? Whatever." Dean crumpled the note and threw it on the table.
He quickly ate some breakfast and walked out the front door. He thought about how Cas must have walked to work. Dean started the Impala and checked the fuel gauge. "Baby could use a drink," Dean said to himself, pulling out of the driveway.
About five minutes out of the neighborhood, Dean saw the large sign reading "GAS N SIP". He pulled up to the gas pump and started filling the car with gasoline. While filling the car, Dean caught Cas's eye through the window of the store and tilted his head with his signature smile.
Dean replaced the nozzle and walked inside to pay for the gas. While opening the door, Beth called from the back, "Cash, take care of this customer!"
"Hello, Cash," Dean chuckled, emphasizing the mistaken name.
"Hello, Dean." Cas punched numbers into the register. "Don't you have to go to work?"
"Yeah," said Dean, pushing money to Castiel. "I should get going but I thought I'd stop by and say hi."
"Hi. Can you go now? Beth doesn't like it when I handle personal issues at work."
"What issue? Is there an issue, Cas?" Dean interrogated.
"Well," Castiel rubbed his arm uncomfortably. "No, I was just worried that you were mad at me for inviting your brother over to help us search for a mother for our child."
"I didn't know you invited Sam over. When did this happen?"
"Last night, while you were sleeping. You really should go Dean," Cas increasing speed as he spoke. "I'll get in trouble."
"I'm leaving, I'm leaving," Dean turned towards the door. "See ya later, buddy."
"Yes, we'll see each other tonight." Castiel watched through the window as Dean started the Impala and began pulling out of the station. "WAIT!" He yelled, running out the door to chase the car down.
"DEAN! PICK ME UP AT TWO!"
Castiel panted and walked back inside, the sound of Dean's laughter echoing through the gas station.
