On Wednesday, Dean left work early to pick up Castiel so they could meet Cassidy before she got pregnant. When they pulled up to the building, they met Cassidy in the parking lot before entering and checking in.
Dean held Cas's hand the whole time. He was beginning to understand the difficulty Cas was experiencing and tried to make him as comfortable as possible.
They waited in the small waiting room for Cassidy to return from the office. Castiel constantly shifted in the red chairs in discomfort. "Dean, what if this doesn't work?"
"It will, Cas. We just have to be patient."
"But I read online that--"
"No, Cas. I don't want facts or statistics. This isn't some game show; this is real life. Our life. Please, be confident. I know this will work."
"Okay, Dean. I trust you." Castiel gripped Dean's hand tighter and they waited in silence.
After what seemed like an eternity, Cassidy entered the waiting room. Dean jumped up and went to see how it went.
"Everything went well. They said we're good to go as soon as we check out."
This made Castiel settle a little bit. Cassidy went to the main desk so she could check out and Dean waited with Castiel by the door.
They met up in the parking lot before exchanging phone numbers and going to their appropriate homes. Dean waved to Cassidy while pulling out of the lot while Castiel sunk a little bit in his seat.
At home, Dean sat with Castiel in the kitchen. "You okay, buddy?" He said, with an arm around the angel's shoulder.
"I'm...fine, Dean. Just a little tired is all. It's been a long day."
"Yeah, you can say that again."
"I don't understand why repeating myself would benefit--"
"It's an expression, Cas."
"Oh, okay."
"Do you wanna go to bed?"
"I would like that very much."
Castiel and Dean went upstairs to their bedroom. The sun was beginning to set and the room had warm glow to it.
"You know," said Dean, leaning in towards Castiel. "We won't be able to see the baby for a while."
"I know that, Dean. Human gestation takes nine months."
"That's not what I mean."
"Well, what do you mean?"
"I mean that Cassidy isn't even going to look pregnant for a couple of weeks. Probably not for a few months."
"Is that supposed to be comforting?"
"No," Dean kissed Castiel. "It's supposed to be a warning. I don't want your expectations not to be met."
"Thank you, Dean. But I think I can handle my own expectations," Castiel kissed Dean back.
"You'd be surprised at what we can't handle."
Dean and Castiel spent the rest of the night fantasizing about their new life. Castiel was mostly worried about what the baby would look like.
Dean was concerned that the baby would be too much for him and Castiel. Even with the dark thoughts looming over them, the angel and his boyfriend fell into peaceful sleep where they would be awoken the next day to continue with their lives.
