It was eleven at night when Dean's phone started ringing. He and Cas were snuggled on the couch pretending to watch TV while they made out. The dull drone of voices in the background was comforting in the otherwise silent night.
When he first herd the ringing, Dean backed away from Castiel and read the caller ID. It was Cassidy.
"Hello?" Dean answered.
"Hey, Dean," Cassidy sounded pained. "I'm just calling to let you know my contractions are about ten minutes apart. It could be a false alarm but I just--"
"We'll be over as soon as we can." Castiel, who couldn't hear what Cassidy was saying, pulled himself closer to Dean.
"What's happening?" He asked. Dean out up a finger for silence. "Who is it?" Dean glared at Cas and mouthed "Cassidy". "What's happening? Is the baby okay?"
"Shhhh!" Dean quieted Cas. "Alright. See you soon." Dean put his phone in his pocket. "Cassidy's having the baby. Soon. We've gotta go."
"What do we need to bring?" Cas asked.
"I made a baby bag. It's in the nursery. Go grab it while I start the car."
"Okay." Castiel ran up the stairs and into the nursery where a small blue suitcase was sitting on the dresser. Cas grabbed the handle and went back downstairs. "Wait," said Cas after opening the passenger door. "I forgot something."
Castiel ran back inside and grabbed his trench coat off of the hook in the kitchen.
"Ready?" Dean asked when Cas sat down and buckled his seat belt. Castiel nodded and Dean pulled out towards the main road.
They stopped for gas about half way there and Castiel went into the convenience store to get Dean a treat. He found a small cherry pie and purchased it.
Back in the car, they drive without stopping to Cassidy's house. Dean ate his pie on the way and when they pulled into the driveway, Dean had cherry filling in the side of his mouth.
Cas wiped it away with his sleeve and kissed Dean on the cheek. They opened the doors to the impala and went up to the front door.
A man with a thick mustache and sunglasses opened the door and looked at Cas strangely.
"Um, we're here to see Cassidy," Cas said.
"Who? Oh! You mean Cass?"
Dean nodded questioningly.
"Yeah. She lives downstairs. In my basement."
"Okay?" Said Dean. "Well, can we go see her now?"
"What? Oh yeah, sure thing. She's downstairs."
"You said that already," stated Castiel.
"So," said Dean as they walked down the stairs. "What's with the glasses? You realize it's nearly midnight?"
"I know. But," the man said, pulling his glasses up to reveal a large scar where an eye would be. "I try not to flash this to the people at my door. Wouldn't wanna scare the Girl Scouts away."
"Yeah. I'm sure there are seven year olds all over the place trying to seek you thin mints at twelve o'clock in the morning."
"You'd be surprised who we get this time o' night. Well, here we are. Cass's room is right through here."
"Thanks, pal," said Dean.
"Thank you," added Castiel.
Dean knocked on the door and opened it after Cassidy replied. Dean and Cas walked in and saw Cassidy resting on a red couch.
"How are you doing?" Asked Cas.
"Fine. The contractions are about six minutes apart. They said we can go to the hospital when they're at three minutes."
"Okay. Let's chill out here then," said Dean, looking around the room. He caught his eye on some Christmas lights hanging from the ceiling. The were pulsing red, blue, green, and white.
They all sat around in the dimly lit basement area and waited for the contractions to get closer together. Around two in the morning, Cassidy sat straight up and put her hand to her inner thigh.
"What's wrong?" Asked Castiel who was sitting beside a sleeping Dean, patiently waiting for the baby.
Cassidy lifted her hand and watched the liquid drop off of it. "I think my water just broke."
"What? It's broken! What do we do? We need to get you to a doctor right away!"
"That second part is true. It just means the baby is ready. Get Dean," Cassidy got up and grabbed a pair of sweatpants out of the dresser.
Cas started shaking Dean awake and shouting, "Dean! Dean! The baby is coming, the baby is coming!" like a child on Christmas morning.
"Can you get my overnight bag? It's under the bed," Cassidy said.
When Dean woke up, he retrieved the bag while Cas helped Cassidy up the stairs. They all got in the Impala (after Dean put a towel down in the backseat for Cassidy) and drove to the hospital.
