The next week Castiel woke up extremely early because he was so excited to go to the appointment and find out the baby's gender. After crawling out of bed and getting dressed, Castiel went down to the kitchen where he made a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs.

Dean was still sleeping when Castiel had to go to work so he wrote Dean a short note reminding Dean of the appointment and informing him that he was walking to work. Cas placed the note on the counter near the window and exited the house.

The appointment was at two so Dean was supposed to pick Castiel up around one. At about noon Castiel was checking his phone for messages to see if there was any problem with Dean's arrival or the appointment itself. His battery was wearing down so Castiel turned off his phone until one.

Dean woke up around noon, scratching his head and ruffling his hair. He turned to see Castiel but was greeted by an empty bed. Shrugging it off, Dean pulled on some pants and went downstairs. The kitchen was empty but there was a plate of scrambled eggs in the shape of a smiling face on the table.

Dean went to investigate and shoved a forkful of the breakfast into his mouth. It was cold and Dean forced down the first bite before heating the plate in the microwave. When Dean finished eating he put his plate in the sink and opened the window.

Dean closed his eyes and took a deep breath to help wake himself up. He turned behind him when he heard a rustling whip sound. A small piece of paper had blown out the window and into the neighbor's yard.

"Hey, Cas?" Dean called. There was no response. "Castiel?"

Dean assumes his boyfriend was at work and went into the living room to watch TV. At one o'clock Dean heard a strange buzzing sound from upstairs. It was fairly inconsistent and Dean muttered, "What the hell is that?"

Around one-oh-five the buzzing had stopped and Dean settled into the couch. He continued watching the TV and sleeping until three o'clock when he heard a knock at the door.

At one o'clock, Castiel went into the break room and pulled out his phone. He held the power button until the logo appeared on his screen. Cas called Dean but nobody picked up. He tried calling for about five minutes before his phone battery died.

"Damn," said Cas.

"You okay there, Cash?" Asked Beth, still mistaking Castiel's name.

"Um, no actually, I have to leave."

"Well you can't leave now, sugar. You have work to do and your shift doesn't end until six tonight."

"Please," Castiel begged. "I really need to go. I'd have Dean pick me up but my phone is dead. Check the schedule, you said I could leave at one."

"But you're the only one here, Cash, and we got customers. How 'bout this?" Beth offered. "You take care o' all these folks and I'll take a look at that schedule you were talking about."

"Beth--"

"No, sir, I do not want to hear it. Finish these customers up and I'll check the schedule. And that's that."

Castiel realized arguing was futile and went to take care of the customers as quickly as he could. At two-forty five Beth finally checked the schedule.

"Would you look at that, Cash. Your shift ended over an hour ago. You're free to go."

"Thanks," Castiel shouted as he sprinted out of the store and started running home. He was out of breath by the time he got to the doorstep and turned the knob. It was locked and Cas pounded his fist on the door.
