She couldn't see his face, but she could swear he was smirking.
And definitely enjoying the show.
Her head burrowed further into his chest, practically smothering herself against him. Her nose barely caught air as she felt him shift, sitting down properly—with her perfectly positioned on his lap.
His voice vibrated against her ear.
"If you don't answer, I'll put you down."
She wanted to slap him so badly.
Of course, he'd take advantage of her moments of weakness.
Her body was too exhausted to fight, so her mind chose the easiest answer.
She nodded.
Gojo hummed, dramatically shrugging.
"Hmm... guess I have no choice then—since I'm a gentleman!"
She snorted. Lies.
Slowly, her gaze lowered—settling on her exposed chest.
The golden mark in the middle of her skin was still warm, glowing faintly in the moonlight.
Her fingers brushed over it gently.
"I've seen this mark before..." she murmured. "It's two Greek letters—an acronym for Zolda."
Her voice softened.
"Nan—Grandma's last name."
Gojo's interest piqued. "Oh, I see. Was she able to see cursed spirits like you?"
She nodded again.
But now, as memories of her grandmother surfaced, a strange feeling settled in her gut.
A presentiment.
Was all of this... her fault?
Gojo leaned his head back. "The one who gave you the necklace?"
The image of her necklace—being ripped from her neck and thrown away—flashed in her mind.
Her heart twisted.
A soft "Hmm" was all she managed in response.
Because, in the end, that very action was the only reason she was still alive.
Blaming a stranger for saving me instead of thanking him... not wise.
"It was her last gift," she admitted, her voice rough, her throat raw.
Gojo whistled. "Such a waste!" He grinned. "It could've killed you by now, since you're—"
His rosy lips stilled.
Because her fingers suddenly touched them.
His words died.
She was gazing up at him, her eyes calm but sad.
A ghost of a smile hovered on her lips, but her expression remained disconsolate.
"Not human anymore," she finished for him.
Her tone—not brave enough.
Her hand slid down slowly, releasing his lips.
For so long, she had clung to disbelief, because it was easier.
Easier to pretend he was lying.
Until now.
Until the truth wrote itself harshly across her chest.
She inhaled deeply.
"I can feel it," she murmured. "A huge, dark aura inside me. Like I'm the devil itself."
