Y/N considered herself lucky to know the exact time of her death. What made it even better was that she wasn't alone. Sure, she was with a stranger—but at least she wasn't dying in isolation.
Her voice broke the silence. "Life is small and fast, right?" She wasn't really asking him. She was asking herself. Then, she sighed. "But I don't regret anything I did."
Her eyes darkened slightly. "Not when I burned the old family book Grandpa worshipped. He beat me senseless after that. Until..." She scoffed. "Dad didn't protect me. So, to get revenge, I smashed his work laptop into pieces." A humorless chuckle escaped her lips. "He lost everything. Hehe~"
Her voice turned cold. "So, he locked me in a dark, freezing basement for a month." She exhaled, as if recalling a memory that should've haunted her—but didn't. "Grandma chose business college for me. So, I poured out all her oldest, most beloved sake bottles. The ones she inherited from her parents. The ones she had been collecting since her youth." She paused. "I don't regret that either." Then, she added casually— "Even if she had a heart attack when she found out."
Gojo blinked. "...She what?"
"But don't worry!" Y/N waved a hand. "She's still alive. That damn witch."
She sighed, feeling better. Much better. There was something freeing about telling all of this to someone who wasn't going to lecture her. Or punish her.
Gojo tilted his head. "You really are something." His voice was unreadable. "So, is there anything you actually regret?"
She hesitated. Her fingers twitched. "O-only one thing..." Her voice wavered slightly. Then, finally, she admitted— "It was when Bibo—my cat—had a fever. I... I thought if I put him in the freezer, it would cool him down and heal him faster."
A long silence.
"And then... he... he—"
She bit her lip. Her eyes watered.
And then—
Gojo burst out laughing. "OH—MY—GOD—" He doubled over, clutching his stomach. "I'm— I CAN'T—"
Y/N snapped. She gave him a deadly glare. "STOP LAUGHING, YOU HEARTLESS JERK!"
Gojo struggled to breathe. He wiped an actual tear from his eye. "Okay, okay! Don't be mad!" He exhaled, still chuckling. "We all did stupid things as kids. But honestly—" He smirked. "You could've been a famous veterinarian."
She sighed. There's no winning with him.
"Two percent isn't zero percent," she muttered. "So... what if I survive?"
Gojo tilted his head. "Hmm... let's see..." Then, casually— "If you can control your cursed power, you'll be a threat. So, I'll have to execute you anyway."
She froze.
Then—
"EXCUSE ME!?"
Her rage was instantaneous. "ME? A THREAT? TO WHO EXACTLY?" Her voice rose. He really thought she would just turn into a wild beast, murdering everything in sight?
Gojo remained calm. "I just don't trust curses." His voice was dead serious. "Especially not Awakeners."
She narrowed her eyes. "But you're willing to make deals with them."
Gojo smirked. "What if I am?"
The air between them thickened. She clenched her fists. "Then let's make another deal."
Gojo raised an eyebrow. "I'm listening."
Her voice was firm. "Don't kill me if I control my cursed power."
