I needed to switch topics—focus on getting to know him better.
"Geto-san, even if you've trained here, you're still too strong for an ordinary man."
It wasn't that I didn't believe him, but I wanted to learn more. We were still strangers, after all.
"I've met people stronger than normal humans and trained to be at their level," he replied casually. "Haven't you met someone like that before?"
I started counting on my fingers.
Father. Masaru. Uncle. Grandpa. My little brother, Isamu.
And the strongest of them all—Gojo.
(Well, he's a witch.)
"I do," I answered simply, gathering my things. Just as I reached for my hoodie, his voice stopped me.
"Why do you want to be strong, Y/N?"
I froze. I wasn't expecting that question.
And the answer? That would be even worse than expected.
I couldn't tell him 'to kill my own father' or 'a blindfolded man will execute me if I don't control my strength.' Obviously not.
Besides... why do I want to be stronger?
It was a good question.
"To protect myself... and the people I love," I finally said.
He hummed in acknowledgment. I sighed, sitting beside him—not too close. My eyes drifted down to my bruised body, to my simadi.
He hadn't asked about it. Either he assumed it was a birthmark, or he simply wasn't the curious type.
But then—
"The one who gave you those bruises deserves to die."
His voice was colder than the water we swam in.
I froze.
He figured it out instantly.
It felt heavy when he said it. Just like when Gojo said it.
But... deep down, I couldn't accept my father's death. Not yet.
Maybe because death wasn't enough for him.
I needed to change the subject.
"You hesitated when telling me your name earlier," I pointed out. "Are you running from something? Or maybe... an awful thing you did?"
I trust people. But that doesn't mean I don't analyze them.
He was a smart man—one who controlled his emotions well. His energy stayed completely calm.
That meant one of two things.
One: He lied about his name.
Two: He wanted me to think he was hesitant—on purpose....Or both.
His answer would tell me which it was.
And no matter what, one thing was certain.
He's dangerous.
"I killed my father," he said. "Are you scared of me now?"
His face was unreadable.
"I didn't do it for joy. I had no other choice."
Then, after a pause—
"You wouldn't understand."
Something flickered in my mind. Not a memory—
That dream. From the day I awakened.
"There are no coincidences."
