Rosalynn
The entire ride had been spent in silence. The only time we spoke was when I asked if she wanted me to take her home. Something in me was hoping she would ask to go back to my place, but of course that would be too easy.
We pulled into her driveway and I shut off the car. My mind was racing with thousands of questions and there was no way I was letting her leave without at least telling me why she was in that area. She didnt seem like she was going to break the silence, but she made no efforts to leave either. "Charlotte .. what were you doing all the way over there? You know thats not a good neighborhood right?" I was expected to be met with silence, but was surprised when she spoke. "I was with Laura. She came home late in the evening. Maybe seven or eight. She was being really nice to me. She even brought me food." I didn't want to say anything out of fear she might stop talking to me all over again. God I've missed her voice so much. It feels good to even be acknowledged by her again. So I nodded, hoping she would continue.
"After I ate, I was throwing my trash away and she was sitting at the kitchen table. I was about to head up to my room when she said we needed to get some food in the house. She asked if I wanted to go with her, but she had to make a quick stop before we went to the store. I don't even know why I agreed, but I did. So we left." She had my full attention. I didnt take my eyes off her because I wanted her to know even if I didnt say anything I was paying close
attention. Although she was looking straight ahead I let my eyes glance over her features for just a moment. Her eye lashes are long and thick. Yet I still see the beauty radiating from those big gray eyes. Her long blonde hair thats placed perfectly in a bun atop her head. Her high cheek bones that I have seen flush crimson when she's nervous. I can only imagine how they rise when she smiles. Her pink lips look soft as cotton. She wore dark blue skinny jeans, and a black cropped sweatshirt and it took everything in me to pull my eyes away from her body.
When I pulled my eyes away from her very toned stomach, I looked back at her as she was already watching me. Her eyes were staring into mine almost burning right through them. She definitely caught me sort of checking her out. All I could do was look away. She kept talking though, "She took me over to that side of town. Said she had to get something from a friend. Told me to wait in the car, and that it wont be long as the stores were going to close in about two hours. I remember waiting for a while. Next thing I know, I woke up in the car and almost 4 hours had gone by. I must have fell asleep or something. Seeing as though it was getting later and later with no sight of Laura, I decided to go look for her."
She wiped a single tear that fell from her eye. I wanted so badly to just reach over and hold her hands. Let her know it was okay. But I just felt like I couldn't. "I should have just took the keys and drove myself home. That would've been easier at the moment but would definitely score me an ass whooping later." She let out a sarcastic laugh, but I didnt find it funny. I think this was the first time she's admitted to me she gets abused. And it breaks my heart. "Anyways." She continues, wiping her eyes. "I went into the house. Passing up the creeps on the front porch. Ignoring their cat calls, I went into the shit hole. Rounded a corner and there she was. Laid out on the couch high out of her mind. She didnt even recognize me. I told her I wanted to go home. But she just looked at me. Her eyes were barely open. So I said again, could you please take me home. Please take me home! But she just picked up a pipe and brought it to her lips. So I just ran back out to the car and cried my eyes out.
I sat there for at least another hour. I didnt know what to do. I didnt even know where I was. So I just left and started walking. And I kept walking until I got tired. I thought I'd gotten myself lost until I saw that diner. I just wanted to go home. I just wanted to get out of there, I was scared. I didn't know who I could call, my phone was dying.. And after much hesitation.. I called you. And thats that." She sat there with her arms folded across her chest. Staring straight ahead as tears rolled down her cheeks. I reached over and tried my best to dry her eyes. Trying to keep tears from falling from my own. This girl has been— and still is— going through so much. She's so broken. And I want nothing more then to take her in my arms, and put every single piece of her back together.
