Chapter 10: "Torn and Frayed"

Liz and Dean are on their way to see Sam because Dean tracked his phone to Kermit, Texas. They arrive at the motel he's staying in, and Liz knows it's about to get messy, so she looks at Dean and softly says, "Um, why don't I just stay in the car?" Dean looks at Liz and says, "Okay." Dean gets out the car and knocks on the door. The door opens and Sam almost closes the door on Dean, but Sam sighs and opens the door and Dean walks in and says, "Who did you expect?" Sam slams the door behind Dean and Sam clears his throat and says, "Long drive?" Dean says, "Well, I wouldn't have had to make it if you hadn't have hung up on me." Sam says, "Yeah, well, I heard all I needed to hear." Dean says, "No, you heard what you wanted to hear. I told you Benny wasn't killing. Hell, I watched him end the fangbanger that was." Sam says, "How about Martin? How did he end that?" Dean says, "Stupid-- Just like I said it would. Crazy son of a bitch didn't give Benny a choice. It was self-defense." Sam says, "Seriously, Dean? That's the story you're going with? That the vampire was the real victim here?" Dean says, "Hey, like it or not, that's the truth, okay? There was a time when that actually meant something." Sam says, "Yeah, yeah. No kidding." Dean's taken back and says, "What does that mean?" Sam says, "You think this is just about Benny?" Dean says, "What the hell are you talking about?" Sam says, "What the hell do you think I'm talking about?" Dean says, "Amelia? Oh, come on, man. I sent you that text 'cause I needed you to-- to--" Sam cuts Dean off and says, "You needed me to what? To tear ass to Texas? To be afraid that what happened to Jessica, what happened to... everybody that we care about might have happened to her?" Dean says, "You were gonna kill Benny. What was I supposed to do?" Sam says, "Is that what we are? You save a vampire by making me believe that the woman I love might be dead?" Dean says, "What do you want to hear, Sam? That I was wrong? Fine. I was wrong. Okay? But if you'd have just heard me out, if you'd have trusted me, all of this could have been avoided." Sam says, "You didn't want me to trust you. You wanted me to trust Benny, and I can't do that." Dean says, "Right. Okay, well, then, what the hell do we do now?" Sam says, "That depends. It depends on you. On whether or not you're done with him." Dean says, "Well, honestly, I don't know." As Dean goes to walk away, Sam says, "Where's Liz?" Dean stops walking and says, "She's in the car." Sam says, "I wanna talk to her." Dean slowly nods and goes to get Liz. Dean gets in the car and looks at her and says, "He wants to talk to you." Liz says, "Oh, boy." Dean says, "I didn't tell him anything about you." Liz nods and says, "Okay." Dean watches her leave the car and walk inside the motel to speak with Sam. Liz sits on the bed and Sam says, "Why don't you tell me what really happened to Martin?" Liz sighs and claps her hands together and says, "Well, me and Martin had this plan to kill Benny. We tied his great granddaughter to a chair and showed her his true colors. Benny then places his head on the table and as Martin goes to slice his neck Benny attacks him and I untie Elizabeth and tell her to get out. Benny then looks at me with blood around his mouth and I glow my eyes at him and he tells me that his and Dean's friendship is like mine and Freddie's and--" Sam cuts off Liz and says, "Wait, how does he know about Freddie?" Liz says, "Apparently, Freddie was in Purgatory, and he also helped Dean out of Purgatory and Freddie told Benny about me. Anyway, Benny wanted me to let him go and I got distracted about Freddie and he bite into my neck, so I blasted his ass out the window. I go over to Martin and his throat ripped out and there's blood everywhere. Martin got too arrogant. His blood is on me." Sam shakes his head and says, "No, it's not. It's on Benny. What does Dean have to say about this?" Liz says, "He thinks I'm reckless for going after Benny since I'm almost got myself killed." Sam nods and says, "You wouldn't have to have gone after Benny if Dean didn't just kill Benny. Liz, Dean chose Benny over his family." Liz sighs and says, "I know, but I finally understand why he trusts Benny." Sam can't believe Liz and angrily yells, "Are you serious? He's a vampire, Liz. A vampire!" Liz flinches from Sam's yell and she says, "I know that! But, Benny did make some good points, he along with Freddie saved Dean's life. Isn't this what really matters? That Dean had some help getting out of Purgatory. Sam, I'm still upset that Dean chose Benny over us. Believe me I am. I just think you need understand what Dean has been through in that year." Liz leaves the room and gets in the car. Dean looks at her and softly says, "You, okay?" Liz softly says, "I will be." Dean slowly nods and drives away. Dean drives to the cabin and Liz and Dean walk in. Dean grabs a beer and sits on the couch. Liz says, "You should get some sleep. You've been driving for hours." Dean gulps his beer and says, "Yeah, I know." Dean finishes his beer and lays on the couch and pats his lap and says, "You, are gonna join me." Liz softly smiles and goes to lay on top if Dean with her head on his chest. Dean wraps his arms around Liz and kisses her head and they take nap. A couple hours later, Liz feels someone watching her and she opens her eyes to see Castiel and she's startled. Dean feels Liz jump and opens his eyes to see Castiel and he also jumps and says, "Damn it, Cass! How many times I got to tell you... it's just creepy!" As Liz gets up from Dean, Dean keeps his grip on her she looks at him and he smiles innocently. Liz rolls her eyes and Castiel says, "Liz, Dean, I need your help. The angel Samandriel..." Liz says, "Who?" Castiel says, "He's been taken." Dean says, "You mean Alfie, the wiener-on-a-stick kid?" Dean finally let's go of Liz and they both stand up in front of Castiel. Castiel says, "Yes. I-- I heard his distress call this morning." Liz says, "On what, angel radio? I thought you shut that down." Castiel says, "Well, my penance, it's going well, and I thought it was time to turn it back on. I've, uh... been helping people, guys." Liz smiles and says, "That's great, Cass." Dean says, "Well, good for you. All right. So, who snatched heaven's most adorable angel?" Castiel says, "Crowley." Dean says, "We're listening." Castiel says, "Samandriel is being held in the general vicinity of Hastings, Nebraska." Dean says, "'The general vicinity'? That's all you got?" Castiel says, "Yes, which is why I need your help. It seems this is gonna involve... talking to people." Dean says, "Come on, Cass, I thought you were a hunter now." Liz gets out her laptop and sits at the table. Castiel says, "Well... I thought so, too, but... it seems I-- I lack a certain--" Dean cuts Castiel off and says, "Skill?" Liz opens her laptop and says, "All right. What am I looking for?" Castiel says, "Well, when you torture an angel, it screams, and that kind of pain, it creates a ripple effect of strange incidents. Where's Sam?" Dean says, "Sam's gone. It's all right. We'll, uh, find Alfie ourselves."
