chapter 10

Zuko's P.O.V.

We got to the palace before Sokka gently woke up Bumi as we went to the room where they took Katara.

"Took you guys long enough." Toph said as we walked up. She was leaning on the wall outside the room.

"Sorry, but we wanted to give you enough time." I said.

"It's fine. I was teasing." She said as I blushed a bit.

"How are they?"

"Katara is okay and sleeping. The baby is healthy as well."

"That's good."

"Mhm, you ready to see your new sibling?" Sokka asked Bumi as he rubbed his eyes. He nodded before we went inside. Karata was asleep on her side on the bed as Aang sat in a chair with a bundle in his arms. Sokka set Bumi down before he sleepily walked over. He put his small hands on Aang's leg before climbing onto his lap to look. We walked over as well and stood behind Aang. They were asleep and nuzzled their cheek against his chest. Their skin was darker like Katara, but also darker then Bumi's. Unlike how his skin tone was mixed. They had dark hair as well.

"What did you name them?" I asked.

"Her name is Kya." Aang replied.

"So like our mom?" Sokka asked.

"Mhm. Katara really wanted it and I couldn't say no after naming Bumi."

"That's fair."

"Man, I didn't get a brother." Bumi said as he pouted.

"Hey it's okay kid, I probably had the same reaction when your mom was born. But I wouldn't trade her for a brother." He said as he ruffled his. hair. Bumi nodded before holding Kya's small hand as she moved in her sleep. Aang adjusted her in his arms so Bumi could see her better. I smiled as Sokka rubbed her small cheek a bit and gently. And she leaned into it. I smiled at them, trying not to remember Azula.

I eventually put Izumi to bed before getting ready for bed myself. I got my nighttime robe on before sitting at the vanity and brushing my hair out. There was a knock at the door before I set the brush down and got up to open it.

"Hey, do you guys need something?" I asked when I saw it was Sokka. He was leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest.

"Yeah, we're probably gonna stay a couple more days to let Katara rest instead of leaving tomorrow like we planned." He said.

"That's alright. I figured that would happen. You're welcome here but I'm sure we all have things to do outside of the palace."

"Mhm, Southern water trave needs it's cheif like the fire nation needs it's Firelord."

"Whose in charge while you're gone?"

"Dad and Bato."

"I thought your dad was retired."

"He is, but sometimes he gets an itch to be cheif for a little bit again. So that allows me to come visit with the others like this."

"That's fair. Wanna come in so we don't have to keep talking at the door?"

"Sure, since you're offering." He said as he got off the door frame. I let him in before he closed the door behind himself.

"You didn't have to close the door."

"Eh don't want them to hear something they shouldn't."

"What does that mean?" I asked before he shurrged.

"Since we're dating in a sense, probably don't want people hearing about that until we want to come out about it."

"Alright, good thinking. So why is Bato helping your dad be cheif while you're gone?" I asked as I sat back at the vanity.
