Zuko's P.O.V

I woke up before sitting up and groaning as I rubbed the side of my scar. I had laid on it as I was sleeping, so it was annoyed now but I would probably be fine. I got up before getting into some day clothes. Though not my normal Firelord itire. I put my hair half up before going to my office. I sat at my desk before pulling out some papers before continuing to write on them. It was mostly just plans for better laws and to work out other issues.

"Lord, you have some mail." A servent said as he came in while holding a tray with envelopes on it. He stood next to me so I could reach them.

"Thank you." I said before picking them up and putting them on my desk. He nodded and bowed before walking out with the empty tray under his arm. He closed the door behind him before I opened the letters. They were either the usual threats about me being Firelord and not my father, asking about a change or law, or thanking me. Some were from the earth king or northern water chief for meetings, since we're still recovering from the war to this day. Though then again it lasted for hundred years and it just finally stopped and ten years ago. I rubbed my forehead before getting the last one in the pile, I didn't check the address before opening it. So, I just got the letter out before reading it.

"Dear Zuko, with me getting older and having lots of time to think in prison. I would like to know my granddaughter. If it's alright with you with being her father. From, Ukano." It said, it was from Mai's father. I checked the address on the envelope and it was from the prison he was in. I sighed as I put it down and covered my face with my hands.

"Hey, I went to check on you in your room but you weren't there." Sokka said as he walked in. "You okay?" He asked as he stood by my desk. I just shurrged in response and didn't uncover my face. "What's up then?" He asked before I nudged the letter over to him. He picked it up before reading it. "Who is this Ukano guy again?"

"Mai's father."

"The first guy to lead a rebellion against you?"

"One and only."

"He's had five years to get to know her and he's just now wanting to?"

"I let him see Izumi a few days after she was born out of curtisy and let him go to Mai's funeral. But yeah he's had five years until now."

"Werid."

"He does have a right to see her, but considering he tried to kill me and lead a group against me. I don't know, he's not as evil as Ozai so I'm on a fence." I said as he nodded.

"I can tell." He said as he set the letter back on my desk. "Maybe let her see him if she wants?"

"Maybe? I don't know!" I said as I put my head on the desk with a thud and my arms crossed. He sighed before holding my hand and rubbing my knuckles. I held his hand back as I breathed to calm myself down. "I can tell Mai's mother hates me cause in her eyes I took her husband and daughter away from her."

"Hey, what happened with Mai wasn't anyone's fault. And especially yours. Birth complications like that are more common than you think and a lot of the time they don't know it's gonna happen until labor. And her husband made his own choices and suffered the punishments. Besides was Mai mad you imprisoned her father for trying to kill you?"

"No, she was mad at him though." I said as I picked my head up a bit.

"Then there, it's alright. What about that kid? Tim Tim, I think? What does he think?"

"Tom Tom, and he doesn't seem to mind. He misses them but it's mad at me about it. If any thing it seems he adores me."

"Then it's not all that bad. Just don't talk to her mom when she's in that mood."
