A love between fire and water

Chapter 6

The next day...

Zuko's P.O.V

I was walking to my office as some servants updated me on the ambastors ideas. And especially with izumi not being a bender and what school to go to.

"Tell them what I said last time. She is my daughter and their princess. She is going to the next fire lord whether they like it or not. And she isn't going to the fire nation school for little girls either. She's gonna go to a normal public school so she isn't pampered too much and sees a bit more of the world." I said as we walked down a hallway.

"Well they offered that you find a new wife and try to have a fire bender child with them. So they'll be the next fire lord instead of izumi." One servant said as he looked at a paper, which was probably a letter from the ambassador.

"Tell them I'm not gonna find a new wife just to have another child. I don't want to be like my father and not love the one I marry. And I'm certainly not gonna have another child with what happened with me and azula." I said as the other servant wrote it down.

We got to my office before I shewed them off. Then I walked into my office and closed the door behind me. I sat at my desk before holding my head in my hands as I rested my elbows on the desk. Sokka's kiss was still running in my head, though we've been pretty much avoiding each other since it happened yesterday. Even at dinner we both didn't really talk unless it was to the others.

"Daddy!" Izumi said as she came in, almost running in a way.

"You're not supposed to be in here dear. This is where I get work done." I said as I picked my head up and looked over at her. I also turned in my chair to face the side where she hugged my waist and I hugged her back.

"I know but uncle sokka looks sad." She said as she pointed out the window. Sokka was sitting under a tree outside the palace and was sharpening and shining his sword.

"And you want to cheer him up?" I asked before she nodded.

"And I can't leave alone. So can you go with me?"

"Alright dear." I said before standing up. She held my hand as we walked out of the palace. Then a ship pulled in before toph walked onto the deck.

"Auntie toph!" She said as she ran over and let go of my hand. I chuckled as I walked over as well.

"Think I know that voice." Toph said as she looked in our direction.

"Hey toph." I said as we walked up. Izumi waited patiently in front of her, not knowing if toph wanted a hug.

"Hey zuko and little izumi." She said as she put her hand out for her. Izumi smiled more before holding her hand.

"I have to go handle something but everyone is in the palace. I'm sure you can find them."

"Yeah except for twinkle toes." She said before going inside with izumi. I chuckled before going to the tree sokka was at.

"You may want to rub the shining sloostion the other way so it's even." I said as I sat next to him and he jumped a bit.

"Uh yeah I was gonna do that." He said before doing so.

"Izumi said you looked sad but got distracted by toph coming in the dock. You alright besides the usual?" I said before he sighed. "Or is it about yesterday?"

"I really shouldn't of kissed you like that. You were just trying to help and I got carried away." He said before starting to sharpen his boomerang.

"It's alright, sure it was unexpected but it wasn't bad."

"That's good at least I guess." He said before I sighed and looked at the sky. The sun was starting to set, making a pretty red and orange sky.

"I know a good soba place if you want to continue talking away from the others."

"Soba? Is that a fire nation food? It better not be spicy."

"It's not." I said as I chuckled. "There's reman too."

"That sounds good." He said before standing up and holding his hand out to me after putting his weapons on his back. I smiled before standing up and fixing my robes as I did so. I showed him to town as I took out my hair piece and let my hair down before ruffling my hair a bit.

"Why are you doing that?" He asked.

"Because I'll stick out as the fire lord, especially with my head piece and shoulder piece as well, but I can't do much about that." I said as I put my hair in a ponytail. "You'll definitely stick out like a sore thumb though."

"I don't want to be in fire nation to get up again. I pulled it off at the time, but I like my nation's clothes."

"I didn't say you have to change. You have some bandages I can burrow?"

"Sure but why?" He asked as he handed over a small roll of bandages.

"Because my scar also screams I'm the fire lord." I said as he fixed the bandages around my head and over my scar.

"Oh yeah right." He said as he chuckled. I chuckled as well before giving him back the rest of the bandages. We got to the soba and ramen shop before sitting down and eating. We had some tea as well. "Can't you only see with your unscared eye now, since you have to cover your scar?"

"I can't really see though my scared eye anyway. So, this is better actually."

"You're blind in that eye?"

"More or less. Everything is just a blurry blob in my scared eye. So it becomes hard to make things out when my other eye can see just fine. Also kinda why me and toph make a lot of blind jokes together."

"Then couldn't you cover it all the time to help you see better?"

"I could but I want people to remember and see how the fire nation used to be."

"Yeah it was and we all experienced it."

"Mhm and it shouldn't be forgotten so it doesn't happen again. Not even fire nation royalty was safe."

"Makes sense then I guess." He said before we finished eating and paid. It was pretty dark at this point too and the lanterns hadn't been lit yet. We got to a water fountain before I got an idea.

"Wanna see something?" I asked as he stopped by the water fountain.

"Sure." He said before I lit both my pointer and middle fingers. Then I lit all the candles I could see. When I was done I shook my hands to get my flame to go away.

"Cool." He said as I let my hair down and took the bandages off. I put my hair back in a top knot before holding his hands. Then held them up before kissing one of his knuckles.

"Payback for yesterday and... I-I'm not exactly good with words, but we can date if you want. I would be okay with it a-and prefer it." I said as I blushed, almost hiding behind his hands. I glanced at him and then back away. But from what I saw he was blushing as well and a bit wide eye as well.

"Yeah I would like that too." He said before I smiled and hugged him. He hugged him back as well as he smiled. Then swayed with me a bit.
