1882 at the Phantomhive manor
"I don't understand why you don't plan on passing your position to Amelia..."
Said Vincent Phantomhive to Charlotte. He thought that the potential of his niece was waste. His nephews were older than their sister and had their own talents. Although, they weren't as extraordinary as Amelia. He sighed. His sister wouldn't see his point, she wished to make his eldest son her heir.
"She isn't meant to be tied up to my network, Vince..." She said with a mysterious look.
This reaction made Vincent want to scream what do you know that I don't! Since his older sister ran away that night, his life had been turned upside down. He never expected to be named the Watchdog's Queen. Their mother had made that perfectly clear that even if he was a boy, his sister was the incarnation of the duty that the Phantomhives carried for centuries.
Charlotte was way better than him in so many subjects and here they were, she was the head of the information network of their family and he was the head of their family, the Watchdogs of the Queen. After she came back, he started to find it difficult to understand her. As his mother shaped him to be the heir in the end, Vincent started to be able to see exactly how people worked. What were their deepest secrets and their weaknesses. Although, he was still unable to see what his dear sister wanted.
His brother-in-law was also a mystery to him. As much as he and his wife got along with him, the way that he changed subject when the Phantomhives inquired about his own family made them suspicous. What kind of man did their eldest wedded? To say the least, he was very elusive. Francis even tried to threaten him with her sword but he had merely answered by laughing and paring the marquess' sword.
Vincent failed to see how this Cheng or Charles attracted Charlotte and made his very talented sister marry him. He wasn't anything special in comparaison to many aristocrats that he knew. Even Dietrich was more interesting than this mixed blood man. Although what was clear is that he wouldn't let his sister let her own daughter do the same as her. His niece would not waste her talents by doing something unbecoming of her.
"As much as I respect your opinion..." He started to say but a little head popped out. His son Ciel appeared in the slightly opened door, his hair was a bit messy. He should really think of cutting his hair a bit, it was becoming too long. It almost hid his mole under his left eye. This little rascal was eavesdropping. "What are you doing here, little bird?" He questioned him.
"Nothing father, I am hiding from Amelia, we are playing hide-and-seek." He said with a beautiful smile. It was too cute for him, he might die from a heart attack right now. A few moments later, the door opened again. This time it was Amelia, somehow Ciel guessed it and went to hide in the closet.
"Oh mom, uncle. Have you seen Ciel?"
"No sorry..." The siblings said which made the teenager girl suspicious but went to search in another room.
"You can get out now," Vincent said to his son. "Although, you have to hide elsewhere. Your aunt and I are having an important discussion."
The little kid nodded and went to find another place to hide. He was already so skilled at reading the situation without much explaining needed. He will do well in his future role.
"As I was saying, I respect you as my elder sister and as a person. I would put my life in your hands without thinking twice but on this occasion, I don't think that your judgment is right. Your daughter is even more talented than you were at her age. It would be a shame to waste all that, she isn't mean either simply marry and be a stay-at-home wife. Amelia should be more than a lady." He said very seriously. His sister expression was unreadable. He continued. "This is why I have decided that if neither of my son is able to succeed my title, she shall be the next Watchdog's Queen."
