1881, Seven years before, Baroness Burnett's London cottage, early evening

"I am here!" Stated Amelia appearing behind the Baronness making her jump. She hit her with her fan.

"Amelia d'Assy!!!" She scolded her.

Then the socialite looked at her disapprovingly. The Lady was still wearing trousers. She couldn't start to wonder how she even managed to arrive here on time. Not that far away, Lin sneezed while some people were complaining about broken roofs.

"You were almost late!" Scolded Madam Red. "Late at your own presentation!!!" She completed scandalized.

"I am sorry..." she said with shiny remorseful eyes.

Damn that child! The baroness knew more than anyone that she wasn't sorry. They had so much to prepare in such a short time. Why couldn't Marchioness d'Assy do it again? The Marchioness Francis Midford asked her to prepare her niece to be presented officially to the Queen. Amelia was a bit young for that, but everyone expected her to be presented this very season.  She was only twelve years old. No one was presented at that age, only the one with the most influence.

The pressure that is on her. Hopefully, she liked that child. She had wits. After a lot of rumbling, Amelia finally looked decent. She had a white dress which was made by Nina Hopkins. The couturière was there looking at the lady crying her eyes out before the beauty of the Lady. The dress was defining delicately her silhouette and had a white veil tied to her hair by a beautiful white chou imitating a lotus flower. Her silky black hair was partly braided in two small braids tied together.

Madam Red wished that Marchioness d'Assy could be here but she knew that her other aunt would be the one to present her. Madam Red didn't have a high rank enough to do so from her marriage. It wouldn't stop her from taking that young lady under her wig.

.....

Buckingham Palace

"Marquess Frances Clare Midford née Phantomhive presents Lady Amelia Mathilde d'Assy." Said Lord Chamberlain hitting the floor with a sceptre.

The Lady bowed perfectly before the Queen Victoria who smiled kindly. Everyone in the Court could see that the Queen was favouring the daughter of her good friend. The influence of Charlotte d'Assy was still very much there. Charles Grey by the side of his father nearby the Queen witnessed the unveiling of the new centre of high society. It was bound to be interesting in the next few years. This young lady would prove to be just like her mother.

"I am expecting a lot from you, ma chérie." Said the Queen before the lady discreetly winked at their sovereign.

.....

Debutante ball, an hour later

Amelia was nervously looking at the clock in the reception room, she felt like Cinderella. She did have to be back by midnight because she would be in big troubles otherwise. Her aunt had left her to get to her personal fan club. Meaning the other members of the knighthood of the Order of the Garter.

"Congrats on debuting, Amelia." Said Madam Red winking at her.

She liked that woman. She was one of the only female doctors in the whole British Empire. She had her admiration for it but she still attended parties proudly and led most of the gossips in high society.

"Thank you, is your husband here?" Inquired Amelia looking around.

That husband of hers was very interesting. She has never seen him until now. Instead, she saw Uncle Vincent and Aunt Rachel. She waved at them.
