I woke up the next morning. Well, I say morning, it was more afternoon. I got up and ready for the day ahead. Today was the day. The day I finally got out of my shell and met some people. I was extremely nervous and considered calling the whole thing off, that was until I remembered Gobber's words to me. I didn't want to disappoint him. I couldn't disappoint him.
With this thought in mind, I pushed open my door and headed outside. As the sunlight reached my skin I took a deep breath of the fresh, cool air and went towards the dragon training arena.
When I arrived, I looked inside to see Hiccup and his friends locking one of the enclosures. "Phew..." I thought to myself. They had put the dragon away. I stood there for a while as they cleaned up the arena from a day of dragon training and I leant against a wall, waiting for them to finish. As they came towards the gate, Hiccup spotted me and gave me a huge grin. For some reason that calmed me a little and my shoulders relaxed.
"Hello, Y/n!" He said, lifting the gate and inviting me inside. I hesitated for a moment before he said, "No dragons." I gave him a relieved smile and headed inside the arena with him. "Guys!" He exclaimed, getting the others attention. "This is Y/n. She is going to be joining us for a bit." I saw five other people stood around me. "That's Ruffnut and Tuffnut." He said gesturing towards them. "I'm the cool one." Said Tuffnut. "No! I am!" Argued Ruffnut. "I'm in way over my head here..." I thought to myself. "That's Fishlegs," He said pointing towards a slightly larger boy. "Hi!" He said with a goofy smile. He seemed kind. "That's Snotlout," Hiccup said gesturing to another slightly shorter boy. "and this is-" He begun before being cut off. "Astrid." Said a girl with platinum blonde hair. She stared at me like I had just shat in her cereal.
"We're heading into the woods today, just to hang about." Hiccup said starting to walk towards the exit. "You coming?" He gave me a warm smile that sent tingles down my spine. I quickly followed behind him, as did the others. Astrid quickly made her way to the front with Hiccup and grabbed his hand as is she was trying to prove something.
"One second guys, I just need to get Hookfang." Snotlout said from behind me. "Who's that?" I asked, smiling at him. "My dragon." He replied, smiling back. I felt my whole body freeze. I wanted to run, to hide, but there was nothing I could do other than just stand there. Terrified. Hiccup must have noticed my panic because he immediately spoke up. "No dragons!" "Why?!" Astrid exclaimed, staring at me as if she knew I was the reason. I started to worry. I didn't want to be the weirdo. I didn't want to be the outsider. I didn't want them to know that I didn't like dragons. "I thought it would be nice for it to just be us." Hiccup said, smiling as always. Thank god. With that we made our way towards the forest.
We spent the whole day there, laughing, joking and talking until the moon started to rise which left a slight glow on our skin. In this time I had gotten to know everyone quite well. They told me about their dragons and said I had to meet them. Hiccup quickly changed the subject though. I got to know everyone. Everyone except Astrid. She kept her distance from me. The only time she would talk to me is when I was talking to Hiccup, and even then she kept sending me death stares.
As we made our way back to the village, one by one the group said goodnight and left as we passed their houses. We got to one house and stopped. No one moved. "Um, Astrid..." Hiccup said. "Are you going inside or not?" He added laughing slightly. She looked at me as if she didn't want me and Hiccup to be left alone. "Right." She said grabbing Hiccup and pulling him in for a long kiss. Too long. I started to feel awkward just standing there, until Hiccup pulled away with a slightly confused look on his face. "Good night, baby." Astrid said, shooting me one more stare before walking into the house. "Night, darling." Hiccup replied.
Hiccup walked me to my house before stopping in front of it. "Soooo...." He said grinning widely. "Sooooooo, what?" I replied laughing slightly and grinning just as wide as him. He rolled his eyes sarcastically. "Did you have fun?" "Well it was nice to not be alone for once," I replied. "Everyone seems so nice!" I said happily. "I'm glad!" He said. "You're part of the group now. You're gonna be hanging out with us a lot more!" He gently punched me on the arm. "I am?" I replied in shock. "Of course! Everyone seems to love you and now you're stuck with us!" He laughed. "Thank you." I said sending him a smile. "Although, I don't think Astrid is the biggest fan of me. "Oh, she's like that with everyone at first. She'll warm up to you." He replied with a reassuring smile. "I hope so." I said, smiling back. "Well, I best be off, don't want to keep my dad waiting." "Oh, yes." I said back. "Don't keep the chief waiting!" He laughed at my words. "Well, goodnight!" He said. "Goodnight." I said back and with that he started to walk away, towards his house.
I was so tired from the busy day that I went straight to bed.
Maybe things would be okay, I thought to myself. It's nice to have people and I know Gobber will be happy. With the thoughts of my new friends whirling around my head I fell asleep.
Astrid's POV: I don't like her. She can't just join this group thinking she owns the place and she better not go anywhere near Hiccup. Everything was fine until she came along. I need a way to get rid of her. I will get rid of her. I just need a plan...
