Remus~

No T.W for this chapter, lmk if I missed something :)

The Gryffindor common room was empty, save for Remus and Sirius. It was late, so Pete was in bed and James was off doing Merlin knows what with Regulus. (Yes, Remus knew. Remus knows everything, and James wasn't exactly a stealthy person.)

"Please just tell me what's going on, Pads. You've been pacing for twenty minutes." He was tempted to chuck something. Remus felt like shit and he was exhausted. All he wanted was his bed, but Sirius needed him.

He realized a long time ago that he'd do just about anything for Sirius.

"Sorry, Moony." The black-haired boy dropped down onto the couch next to him, resting his chin on a hand and staring at the fireplace.

Remus felt just a little breathless as he took in his friend's appearance for what was probably the seventh time that day.

Sirius was beautiful. Remus loved all of the little imperfections on his face, the smattering of freckles on the bridge of his nose, and the little scar above his left brow from when he tripped on the stairs and hit his head in third year. The crookedness of his nose from when he broke it during a Quidditch game, and his curly hair that was always just a little tangled and held in a bun with his wand.

Sirius turned his head, meeting Remus' eyes. This time, for the first time in what felt like years, he didn't look away.

No, this time Sirius inched forward, till there were only a few centimeters of space between them.

"Sirius," Remus breathed, a question in his voice.

"I'm scared, Moons," Sirius said, whisper-quiet. "I'm scared. Of Reg. Of the war." He paused. "Of you."

Remus' stomach dropped, and he pulled away a little. "Oh."

"No, that's not- I just mean-" His eyes flicked down to Remus' lips, then back up. "I'm scared of how-"

Right then, Lily Evans came down the stairs from the girls dorms, her eyes wide when she saw the two of them so close.

She knew exactly how Remus felt. Lily was his best friend aside from the Marauders, the first and only person he'd told about his growing feelings for his best friend.

"Sorry, forgot- uhm." She rushed over and grabbed a book from the coffee table. "Sorry. Carry on," she said with an awkward wave of her hand before rushing up the stairs.

Remus stood up, stepping quickly away from his friend. "It's late, we should sleep."

"Rey, wait-" Sirius said as he stood, reaching out his hand. But Remus was too quick, leaving Sirius alone in the common room.

What the hell just happened?

He's scared of me.

Needless to say, Remus didn't sleep that night. If the tossing and turning from across the room was any indicator, Sirius didn't either.
