Remus~

TW: Nothing, I think? As always, let me know <3

It was the new moon, otherwise known as the day when Remus was in the least pain, so he was in a particularly good mood when he went down to breakfast.

By "good mood," he meant he was a little less grumpy that morning.

Remus was not a morning person, which was fitting seeing as his whole life was tied to the moon.

Since Remus had a grudge against waking up, he was the last of their group to the Great Hall. Nobody was ever very chipper in the mornings, but today they looked as if someone had died.

"So... Is someone gonna tell me what's wrong, or...?" He asked as he took a seat next to his boyfriend. He had a boyfriend now. He couldn't help but smile a little, but it fell when a wrinkled letter was plopped down in front of him. "What-"

"I had a, erm- visitor. Last night." Regulus said. He looked even more exhausted than normal, and more than a little afraid.

"Someone broke into his room and left that," James said. He was trying to be calm about it, but Remus could see his friend's worry in the tense set of his shoulders.

Remus picked up the letter and read.

"Shit."

"I still think we should tell someone," Peter chimed in. " If Dumbledore knew, he could-"

"We don't tell anyone," the Black brothers said at the same time.

"Walburga doesn't bluff. At least for now, we can't tell anyone. It's too dangerous," Sirius said, and Godric, he looked terrified. Remus took his hand under the table and squeezed it.

"Maybe I should just separate myself... You all don't need this," Regulus said as he took the letter back and tucked it away.

"Not happening, Reg. We're your friends, remember? And no way in hell are we gonna let anyone hurt you." James said.

Regulus paused for a moment. "Alright. What's the plan, then?"

"For now, since we aren't telling anyone, our best bet is to act like normal. We'll need to figure out some way for you to contact us if anything else happens-" Remus started, but was interrupted by James.

"I think I might have something."

...

James sat down again ten minutes later, two little mirrors in his hands. He handed one to Regulus and kept the other for himself.

"They're two-way mirrors," he explained. "You can use them to talk through. Sirius and I normally use them during detention, but.."

"Mate, did you take that out of my things?"

"... Maybe?" He grinned. It fell a little flat, but everyone was grateful for the attempt.

...

He and Sirius had a free class that morning, so Sirius insisted on walking Regulus to class.

"This really isn't necessary," he protested.

"Trust me Reg, it's easier if you just go with it," Remus said, and Sirius nodded.

"It's true, I'm one stubborn bitch."

Luckily, Regulus was able to escape them soon after, when they arrived at his class. It was potions, down in the dungeon, and Sirius decided to wait outside of the classroom for him.

And so, the two settled into one of the little alcoves just down the hall.

"Tell me what's going on?" Remus asked after a minute of silence.
