Regulus~

T.W: Eating disorder behavior, mentions of abuse (Physical)

 The sorting ceremony was misery.

For one, it seemed half of the room was looking at Regulus. He knew why, of course. He wasn't stupid.

He made them uncomfortable. His bruised face, the scars and cuts that marred his body, were impossible to hide. He was certain he'd be asked questions about it later, interrogated by his classmates while they pretended to care.

He really just wanted to forget.

The ceremony and the feast afterward were overwhelming on a good day. But the yelling and laughter, the smells and lights and the touching, everyone touching him, made Regulus close to vomiting.

He was hungry. Starving, really. Dear old mum and dad forgot to feed him more often than not at home, and he hadn't exactly been allowed to roam freely.

Regulus just couldn't bring himself to eat. He was already overloading his senses just being in the great hall, adding more to that was certain to tip him off the cliff he'd been balancing on. He'd eat later, down in the kitchens. It would be alright.

Regulus distracted himself in the best way he knew how: reading.

His copy of The Illiad was old and worn. He'd just read it a week earlier, but it was his favorite.

He thought about reading The Oddessy again, but the tightness in his chest wouldn't allow it.

Because it was his favorite, and thinking about him, about the months during last term that had been the happiest of his life, only reminded him of what he would never deserve again.

James Potter would never be his again. He'd made damn sure of that.

...

Regulus had managed to last two weeks without speaking to James.

That night, James had shown up with a muggle board game. Where he got it, Regulus had no clue. The game was sort of like checkers, but standing up.

Regulus didn't care what it was called, just that he was beating James' ass at it. It was so nice feeling like he was good at something, and he couldn't stop a smile from creeping onto his face as James lost for the seventh time.

"How are you so good at this?" James asked him, running a hand through his hair as he watched Regulus reset the board.

Honestly, Regulus debated answering. But he wanted someone to talk to. In the end, he debated for so long that James was surprised when he spoke.

"It's just strategy," he shrugged. It wasn't much, but it was a start.

Apparently, James thought the same. The grin he gave Regulus proved it.

Merlin, that smile. It twisted something in his stomach, a feeling so close to fear but entirely opposite. Certainly not a feeling he'd ever had before.

Regulus dutifully ignored it, hoping the feeling would pass. It didn't.

No, this feeling, this unknown emotion, multiplied and filled him up slowly.

Still, he ignored it.

It seemed that once Regulus began talking, he couldn't stop. The boys spoke of anything and everything that night, from Quidditch to their classes, the professors they loved, and Filch, whom they both hated. They didn't mention Sirius.

It wasn't until the sky grew light that Regulus realized they should have gone to bed.

"I can't come tonight, by the way," James said as he helped Reg pack up the board game (The score was 36-1, not that anyone was counting).

Regulus was surprised to find himself a little disappointed.

((Spoiler alert: having readers is the best motivation for writing, so thank you for supporting my story!! I'm actually really excited to keep writing, so hopefully the rest of the chapter will be up before too long.

Also, please don't worry too much about Reggie and eating. He doesn't have a disorder, I only tagged it that way because the content could be triggering. Pls stay safe if you're struggling, I'm always open to chat  <3

Another note because I'm mad with power: Reg is the board game QUEEN and if you play against him you WILL lose. I don't make the rules.

Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you for the support. I won't lie, I sobbed when I realized that there were people out there who actually enjoy what I write. Thank you for everything, and prepare yourselves for some SPECTACULAR wolfstar content  (the yearning? The pining? The tension? Immaculate) in the next part.

And I'll say it again, if I get a fact wrong don't @ me :D

Alr I'm done now))
