"How long you been feeling like this, Olivia?"
She didn't have a number of days in mind, but however long it was, it was the motivation she needed to get her to set an appointment with her primary doctor. Olivia had a strong dislike towards the medical field, and namely doctors. Getting her to go to one was like sending a letter to your favorite celebrity. She's stubborn, but above all else, scared. Her two cousins had a battle with cancer in their early thirties of life, while her mom was a breast cancer survivor. Being that it was genetic, she couldn't help but wonder if she was next. It may have been a crazy or rather irrational thought, but it also happened to be a genuine fear of hers.
"I don't know. Few months maybe" Just recently, she had gotten a bad cold after visiting her sister-in-law, Kianna, almost three months ago. Her now fiancé asked her to fly out when he knew he was going to propose. Despite her deep hatred for being in the air, she went anyway, knowing how much it meant to her and her insanely adorable but bad ass nephews, even though she clearly didn't need an excuse to see them. Jonah and Noah were the closest thing Olivia would ever have as kids. She spoiled them rotten and hated how she barely got to see them. Jordan forced her into that reality when he had to leave the world two years ago.
"What are your other symptoms?" The doctor asked her. She pulled her long, silky, and soft braided ponytail to the side, as she played with it, running through the laundry list of ailments. She wasn't a fan of the doctor hearing how Kianna threatened to hurt her if she didn't get checked out, so she said nothing. It was all minor things but managed to affect the way she lives. This week in particular was the worst. She went from vomiting to feeling like she wanted to die. Enough was enough.
"Let's get some blood work done, get a urine sample from you and see what the results bring us. In the meantime, I'm going to look over everything else" The exam didn't last long, just standard procedure, but since she was very tender, the spent the whole time debating on whether to kick him while he hemmed and hawed. She hated when doctors did this. He finished looking over everything, letting the nurse make her entrance with vitals for collecting her blood.
"Hi, Olivia" The nurse shot a smile.
"I'm Alyssa, and I'll be drawing your blood" Olivia returns the smile with a nod.
"If I remember correctly, you own Sugar Street Sweets, don't you?"
"I do" She confirmed with a grin. She loved her store, which had been thriving like crazy. One of the local news channels stopped in six months ago, ran a huge story, changing her whole world. She brought in a new partner to help with all the adjustments, and now they were in talks about opening a second location. She never dreamed in a million years that it would pan out this way. Kianna and her had an idea that they would open the store, thinking it could give her something to do while Jordan worked insane hours in the financial department of sport accounting sells and management. It seemed like a fun idea, and it was, until Jordan's death ruined everything they had built. Store was barely four months old, the company had no money to keep it afloat and Kianna lost everything as a result. Olivia bought her out, even though the business was worth next to nothing, and she left for Georgia.
"I love it there" Alyssa admitted.
"I mean my wallet doesn't, but everything is so good. And juicy. How do you manage to stay so thin?" Olivia snorted.
"I wish you could see how much I weighed before that store. I've put on a good amount since then. I can't seem to stop myself from the tastings either it seems"
"Well, I don't blame you in that" She focused on filling the vials.
"Our head baker is amazing, and she doesn't tell me or my partner, Eric, what the next day's flavors will be. It used to drive me crazy. Now I find it kinda fun. We go into the place, and she's already had the menu redecorated with the flavors of the month and week" They chatted some more before Alyssa placed the bandage around her arm and left. Olivia grabbed her phone to text Kianna.
