The next week and a half went by seamlessly. The doctor Spencer recommended was old, but very sweet. He gave Olivia plenty to think about, also some advice about handling symptoms that would come up soon. All in all, Spencer was correct. He was a great doctor, but she'd never say that out loud. They told his parents last weekend, which made Olivia nervous, but she learned early on that she had no reason to be. She had yet to tell her own parents at the same time. Spencer works, comes home, showers, then has dinner with Olivia. He's typically asleep before she's even begun to be ready for bed, but that's only due to how early he wakes up. Spencer's given her full will when it came to decorating his house in any way she wanted. She wasted hours online and spent too much then she should for a three month stay, but least when the baby was born, the house would be pretty. She flopped in the chair huffing out air. She was tired. All the time. She wanted to sleep and then sleep again.
"Knock, knock" she heard someone speak from the doorway. She stands, seeing Spencer's mom pop her head in.
"Mrs. James! Come in please!" She smiles genuinely, happy to have someone there to keep her from making any more purchases.
"Hi there, babycakes! I wanted to see you how you were doing in here" Her warm smile was as bright as the sun.
"Also, I brought you an chocolate cake" Grace James was one of the sweetest women in the world, and her southern charm was infectious. Olivia met her an few times with Kianna prior to getting pregnant, and it's clear where her boys inherited their hearts from. Grace James raised them with honor and respect.
"I'm getting there"
"You'll love it here, I have a good feeling"
Absolutely not. I haven't had a caramel frappe or strawberry cupcakes. I miss my store, I'm getting every moody about that.
She thinks it but doesn't say it, and smiles. If there was one person, she wanted to like her, it was his mom. She's very close with her boys, and the grandma she wanted her baby to have. The kind that keeps the aroma of sweet oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies in her home, goes on family vacations, and showers her grandbabies with love. Unlike her mother, who would teach them how to ignore people.
"Ahh, you've already made this place so much better" Mrs. James looked around.
"Spencer's room always looked like the inside of a fraternity house on a college campus" She waved her hand.
"You've done such a good job adding a woman's touch round these parts"
"Thank you" She beamed.
"I can't wait to see what you two do for the nursery" Her eyes light up with excitement.
"I'm sorry, love. I'm just happy. I get it's a little inconvenient and things, but it'll be my first grandbaby. After I got in Spencer's ass over how this could've happened, I couldn't keep my excitement to myself. I hope you're okay with that"
"No, I'm happy you're excited"
"I didn't think you would be" Olivia confesses.
She laughed, patting her leg.
"Chile listen, Spencer's a grown man and I've told that boy over and over again about how he deals with women. However, if I could pick a girl to be giving me my first grandbaby, let's just say, I'm glad it's you. You're smart, strong, and a pretty girl with a big heart"
"I'm not sure what to say" Mrs. James shrugs.
"Just be careful with his heart and take care of that baby inside of you" She glances at her belly.
"I will" Olivia promised.
"Okay. Now tell me what you've been up to"
She took Liv's hand as they started to catch up. Olivia filled her in about her frequent boring and uneventful days. She's been to the Bailey's every day, had lunch with Kianna or Spencer if he was available, hung out with her nephews, then made it home before him. It was fun but served no purpose. Olivia didn't like the idea of feeling useless. She's not the stay-at-home kind of girl. She stays busy. She was excited to hear that Eric and her were mapping out an possible new location for the bakery. She never mentioned how tight the time frame was, or the idea of opening while staying relevant. Demand was high, and Sugar Street Sweets was more than willing to be the supply. Being in Harlem, she couldn't help much, and she needed to do something. Decorating Spencer's bachelor pad wasn't as interesting as it sounded, though he made it a point to have every purchase be paid by him. Olivia thought spending his money would be enjoyable, but it wasn't, it seemed like a form of control to his side.
