"Come again" Her head shook vigorously.
"You're what?"
"I'm having your baby"
"You're sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure, why do you think I'm here! Congratulations Mr. James, you're a dad now" She kept talking but he couldn't hear anything.
She's pregnant. I'm going to have a kid.
He started going through that night trying to see how this could've happened, but they were smart. Nothing occurred that he wasn't aware of. They went at it practically the whole night, but he was completely sober.
This isn't right. I'm careful. Always careful. Very Careful. It's not mine.
"Sweetheart" He mutters after figuring things out. Her eyes jumped to his.
"I'm sorry you're goin through this" Her lips part as she sucked in a breath she was holding.
"But that's not my baby. I feel bad and what not, but there's no way it's mine"
"Are. You. Fucking. Serious. Right. Now?" Olivia screamed out every word.
"Not yours?" Her voice elevated.
"I haven't been with anyone else! I'm nine weeks, do the math idiot" He watched her foot tap as she waited.
"We used a condom" He witnessed the steam coming from her ears.
"Well obviously it broke!"
"You're absolutely positive?" He asked her one more time.
"Like, a hundred percent"
"Yes, Spencer. I'm one hundred percent sure that I'm pregnant" She sighed lowly before adding,
"With your baby," to clarify once more that it was in fact, his child she was carrying.
"Fuck"
"My thoughts exactly. So, yeah.... we're having a baby. You're the father" Her eyes pierced through him.
"Now what?" Spencer took a long pause.
"Okay" He started to pace letting his mind catch the idea of this actually being his kid.
"You're pregnant. It's not ideal but it's not the end of the world. We'll be fine"
"Fine? How the hell could this be fine?" Olivia's eyes began to water.
"None of this is fine, Spencer" His need to fix things kicked in. He was a man. A man who fixed things.
"I'll tell you how. You'll move here. We'll get married. I'll put an addition on the condo, and then we'll get things settled. You can always work for my brother. Then, I'll go back in as an owner so we can-"
"Hol up! Slow your roll sir, !" Olivia yelled.
"Are you smokin? Married? Move here? No. Absolutely not, no way!" She shakes her head starting to gasp for the air trying to keep her afloat. Spencer rushed over gripping her shoulders.
"Hey. Easy. Breathe" Olivia took a few deep breaths as Spencer led her to the steps.
"Sit. You need to calm down"
Olivia's eyes peer up at him, with him instantly reading through her. Her fears were clear as he looked into those deep brown eyes. He was taken aback by his inability to stop thinking about how beautiful she truly was. The first time he saw her, he wanted her, which was crazy to him considering how attracted he found himself to dark skins with light eyes. Olivia was something different. He lit her up and left her burning. She was right when she said he hadn't called but he hadn't heard from her either. He left to handle business only to find her gone. Kianna told him she had caught an early flight back home, ending their fling. When Darnell let it slip that Olivia was coming to town, he figured they needed to air some stuff out, so he showed up. He never thought she was pregnant.
"I'm not marryin you" He found her defiance cute.
"You'll change your mind"
"I won't. I'm not moving here either" She crossed her arms.
"We'll work that out"
"I'm not playin with you. I may be pregnant but that doesn't mean-"
"It means everything" He voices while grabbing her hand.
"It means everything to me. I'm not going to be okay with you raising our baby in New York. And that means that everything is different" She sighed, pulling her hand back.
"A minute ago, you were swearing up and down how this baby wasn't yours. Now suddenly you want to marry me?"
"I wasn't tryna hurt you, Olivia. But you show up here after months, sayin you're pregnant. I'm not sure what you expected here" She stands, releasing a groan before looking back at him.
"I expect nothing"
"Well now you can expect me to be a man and take care of my responsibilities and that means we'll get married, your gonna move and I'm gonna take care of you"
"Yo your crazy!" She gripped the side of her head.
"Maybe that's how shit works in Harlem, but not where I'm from. I'm not gonna marry you just because I'm pregnant. We're not seventeen and sixteen in high school. I don't need someone to take care of me. Her fingers motion in air quotes.
"The last thing we should do is get married out of obligation. It's not fair to either of us or our kid. I'll be fine on my own"
"Let's get one thing straight" He moved around so they're face to face.
"You're not alone. You're not on your own. We," He waved his hand back and forth between them.
"are having an baby. You and me. Me and you. Not you by yourself"
"I appreciate that, I do, but I don't know much about you other than the fact that you've been in love with my best friend since you were young and you're an expert between the sheets" He didn't miss the tinge of hurt in her eyes when she mentioned the first part.
She's not wrong.
"We've known each other practically for two years now, you know way more than that about me"
"Right"
"You know a lot more than the bullshit you tryna spew" He disputes.
"I spent an lot of my life in love with Kianna, but I spent just as much of that time knowing good and well she wasn't mine to have. You know that I would do just about anything for anyone. You've seen the way I am with Noah and Jonah"
"I know" She finally turned her eyes to him.
"Yes you're a good guy, but I don't really know you"
"Right, just like I don't really know much about you, other than the fact that you liked when I did that thing with my teeth-"She slapped his arm with her free hand.
"Shut up!" She whisper-yelled.
"The point I'm tryna make here is that we both have an lot to learn about each other, but, seeing as were about to spend the rest of our loves raising this kid, I think we should spend time before that happens, actually together?" He posed the statement as an question, but the truth was he was going to be around for this baby. He's not letting his child grow up without an father. He wanted to teach him an lot of manly things. If it was an girl, she'd be his princess, and he'd make sure to teach her about how evil boys could be. He deserved that chance. He wasn't letting her take his kid elsewhere where he couldn't be part of his or her life. It wasn't fair, and he wasn't going for it, whether she liked it or not.
Is our girl moving? Can Spencer convince her, let me know !
