Spencer took Olivia's hand as they walked back to their house, and she let him. She felt comfortable, which left an uncomfortable feeling in her chest. She didn't feel it should be this easy. In her past relationships she stayed away from guys who were touchy-feely, yet with Spencer, she almost craved his touch. They continue down the path, she's admiring the set-up the James's have. They all lived close, just not on top of each other. His parents lived in the main spot of the same area. Trey, Spencer, and Darnell all have homes on the property, but Darnell's original spot wasn't occupied since he and Kianna built their home together.
"Hey" She stopped dead in her tracks.
"Why am I staying with you when Darnell has a house that's vacant?"
"It's not where you belong" Spencer stood in front of her, as her hand slipped out of his.
"Why? Why would you do that?"
"Where's all this coming from Liv? You never told me anything when we first started making arrangements. Why are you suddenly upset?"
"I don't know, but I am. You didn't give me a choice. You asked me to move here and stay with you, it was decided for me. We still could've gotten to know each other while living down the road"
"No" Finality in his tone.
"No? What do you mean no?"
"No, you were staying with me. There was no other option" Her mouth fell open.
"Why the hell not?"
"You're pregnant and gave me limited time, so you're exactly where I need you"
"Is that all I am to you? Just the girl you got pregnant that needs you to take care of her? Is that why you went all commando trying to marry me?" she shoots the question off rapidly.
"No!" He stepped forward.
"Maybe when you first said that you were pregnant, my mind went there. But damn, Liv. We're not teenagers, and this isn't something new between us. I don't see why you can't believe you're not some obligation to me. I like you. I enjoy being around you. I didn't offer Darnell's spot, because I wanted you close to me. I wanted to see if we were more two years ago, but I knew neither one of us would budge so I just.... let it go at the time. Why are you fighting me when I'm trying?"
"Because..." She trailed off with empty eyes.
"You're such an.... ugh! I don't know what you are!" Speaking frustratedly. Spencer walked forward, and she leaned back to get a better view of his eyes. The sun set behind her, shining to his face, and from his looks alone, she was becoming breathless. Like she was the center of his world. Reminding her of how Darnell would look at Kianna.
"I am doing what's right. Call me whatever you want, but you're pregnant with my baby, and I wanna take care of you"
"I'm perfectly capable of taking care of me. I'm alone, been alone and have been perfectly fine with that"
"It means you belong, with me" He carried on like she hadn't spoken.
"I'm growing pretty tired of explaining this to you. I've said it more than once that I want to make whatever this is, work. You're so wrapped up in doing this by yourself you can't see anything else. Giving you space would only solidify this point about you not being around. You can do this by yourself, you don't have to tell me that. Why do that if you don't have to? Why are you so adamant on being alone? Why can't you see I want to be part of your life?"
"Because it never stays that way!"
She screamed cupping her hand over her mouth. One lone tear falls from her eyes as her truth came out. There it was. In her heart, she knows why. He's the kind of guy she wanted to want her. Strong, sexy, caring and much more. There's layers to Spencer, and she wanted to peel back each one of them. This was why she kept finding ways to be around him when she visited. Why she practically jumped at the chance to sleep with him again. Spencer made her feel alive. He's excavated the parts of her she's tried burying under sarcasm and attitude, the woman who wanted a man to love her. A fairytale or what she envisioned for one, only they don't come true, and she was destined to be forgotten. Spencer's thumb brushed her lonely tear.
