Loreth flicked a stone in boredom and watched as it slowly sank off of the muddy rock and onto the murky floor below. It felt as if there was truly nothing to do today. Her friend, Blue, was out collecting treasures. That is what the heron did, he would find items that two-legs used and return them to her in exchange for fish. In his absence, however, it genuinely felt like there was no single interesting thing going on in her neck of the water today. The woman sighed and rested her head in her hands.
"Why so glum?" Wondered a deep voice beside her. It was Shod, a large mouth bass who had become a dear friend to Loreth over the years.
She looked over at the fish and rolled her eyes, "How are you not bored? There's nothing going on in this lake just like yesterday and the day before that, and the day before that."
The fish seemed to ponder her words, "you're right; I got nothin'. I get to swimming and then I usually forget what I was swimming for in the first place and I start swimming again then surprise! I'm instantly happy again."
At Shod's words Loreth sat up and looked towards the surface.

It looked like chipped glass from beneath it. The surface of the water rippled in the wind's gentle touch and the smallest of crepuscular rays shown through the greenish water, "Do you ever wonder if there's more to life than just swimming?"
"No," he said flatly.
Loreth gave him a look and with a frustrated sigh pushed off of the rock she was lounging on. Sometimes it seemed like the poor fish didn't have a single brain cell between his beady eyes. Shod really wasn't going to be much help today. The only thing that could soothe her craving was to gaze upon the outside world once more. There was a deep ache within her for something she didn't even have a name for. She prayed to the stars that one day her questions would finally have some answers.
