She didn't know what she had done to be honest. It was, on all accounts a shot in the dark. All she knew is that when the waves came crashing down, it was like the grey curtain of this world rolled back and for a brief moment darkness descended.

She felt no temperature, only the wet of water and the familiar appendage that was her mermaid tail. Loreth slowly opened her eyes and blinked a few times. There a great blue before her, and nothing but the sunlight filtering in through the surface of the water above her for miles and miles as far as the eye could see. The mermaid had never seen so much open water before. She felt suffocatingly small in comparison.

Loreth looked to her left and saw Thorin floating there in the water as if he was weightless. His long black locks were fanned above his head and moving ever so slowly. His eyes were shut and body as lifeless as when she had last seen him.

She swam to him and caressed his face sadly, "where have I brought us?" As if he could speak, she waited for an answer and none came. She couldn't help herself as she leaned in and hugged his body to her.

A deep rumbling voice suddenly made her gasp and turn.

"This is my water realm, child." The male voice belonged to a giant merman. His skin was ghostly white, his hair was the color of snow, and his eyes were covered in a white glow. Everything about this being radiated pure energy, a calming sense came over Loreth against her will. Perhaps the most striking thing about this merman was his size. He was a large as a mountain, his tail length sunk all the way to the darkness of the water, where no light could reach.

Loreth gulped, "and...who are you?"

" By the common tongue, I am known as Ulmo, Lord of the water. It is from me that mermaids were created."

Loreth couldn't believe what she was hearing. She half believed that Azog had sprung back to life, to kill her as well. That might've been more believable.

The girl looked from the giant merman and back to Thorin, "you don't know what's been taken from me, my lord. Can you help me?"

"I can do nothing. You must find that power within yourself if you but ask the right questions."

"The right questions? How will that bring him back? I have no time for games! He his the father of my unborn children, I cannot do this alone." Loreth started to tear up and grow angry at the mountainous merman, Ulmo. If he wasn't going to bring him back then this was pointless. Even though this was clearly a divine being, Loreth's thoughts were else where. On her beloved Thorin.

"If you want him back, then bring him back." Was all the being said deeply.

Loreth shook her head, "that is not helpful! How can I do such a thing? If I knew how I would've done it by now."
