· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·Loreth was taken to a nearby medical wing and placed on a rather comfy wooden chair. With silk cushions that were cool to the touch. The coolness on her clammy skin brought her relief if only for a moment.
She stared up at the tall ceiling above her. It was dark wood carved with beautiful little designs. Loreth was trying very hard not to cry and not to vomit again.
Thankfully an elf maid approached her. She wore a long dress of a lovely red color with a blue apron over her front. Her face was perfectly symmetrical. She was pretty even Loreth could see that.
"I hear you are not feeling well," she placed a cool hand on Loreth's sweaty and flushed cheek. "You are a dwarfs size, but you are no dwarf, dear. Your skin is...beautiful. What are you?"
Loreth felt she could trust this woman, "I'm a mermaid. Fate has put me with the company of Thorin Oakenshield. Please, you have help me. This sickness is the last thing we need". She pleaded that last part as a new wave of nausea and pain overcame her.
"Mermaid? I'm afraid I know nothing about your kind. But I will try. Where are you hurting?" The elf's calm and serene voice helped Loreth bite through the nausea.
"It's my stomach. I've had this horrible feeling for a while now."
The elf nodded, and looked to her stomach, blonde hair falling over her shoulder," let's take a look. Close your eyes and try to relax."
Loreth did as she was told and took a deep breath. She wished Thorin was here, holding her hand in this moment.
Loreth peeked at the elf as she ran her hands over Loreth's body, hover just over the clothes. Her eyes were closed as she made it to her stomach. She must've sensed something as her eyes flew open and a small "oh." Escaped the elf's lips.
"Oh?" Loreth questioned her but the elf healer stayed silent as she lifted up the hem of her shirt to reveal her belly. She placed her hands back over her stomach and a smile crossed her face.
"What is it? Is it...parasites?"
The healer turned to her, nearly chuckling at the word, "nothing so complicated. My dear, you are with child."
Loreth felt herself pale and eyes go wide.
That was complicated.
A baby. She was going to have a baby. And Thorin was the father. How in the stars, had she not pieced this together herself? They had only shared the one night together about a month ago. But Loreth supposed even that would make sense. It was completely possible to have conceived from the one moment they shared. But now she was pregnant on a very deadly and dangerous quest that could possibly involve a dragon.
"Miss?" The elf healer called to her again, "are you alright? Are you going to be I'll again?" She put the back of her hand on the mermaid's forehead.
Loreth shook her head, "I can't have a baby."
"Our care does provide...services if you would like. We've never had a pregnancy in our prisons before. I would imagine the king would not allow one. I will have to consult him on the matter. But miss, it's...there's not just one."
