Water is emotion.

When it was still as glass, there is peace. The ripples from the stream are ataraxia. But there comes a point when the emotion is turned to sound, when the water is roaring so loud with anger, that it screams and it drowns.

Such is the wrath they found on the Misty Mountains. This particular storm was so unforgiving and brutal. But they were squinting for visibility, their hair stuck to their faces, bodies drenched from the power of the rain. Loreth was thankful that she had control over her transformations, for she surely would have sprouted a tail long ago.

The rocky path was slippery when it was soaked like this. Poor Bilbo had nearly tumbled over the side had Thorin not caught him.

That was the last straw for Loreth. The only thing they would find out here was their death, "We must find shelter!" The woman yelled over the howling rain and thunder.

Dwalin's booming voice caught everyone's attention suddenly, "Look!"

In the sky, a boulder the size of a house was hurtling towards the rock above them. It smashed with a force, causing a rain of rock upon them. Thorin tried to shield Loreth's head with his oaken shield.

"This is no ordinary storm, it's a thunder battle! Look!" Balin cried and pointed.

In the distance large earthly being made
Entirely of rock we're moving, moaning, and throwing fists.

"Bless me, the legends are true!" Bofur yowled in awe," giants! Stone giants!"

The stone giants threw a large chunks of rock at another giant who was rising clear out of the mountainside. It nails the opposer in the head, sending the decapitated and monstrous-sized head plummeting from above. More debris is sent falling down the mountain as a result but only this time the ground cracks beneath the scared group, the company becomes divided by half.

Fili reached for his brother who was now slowly moving away from him with the others, "Kili! Grab my hand!"

He tried but to no avail. They watch with wide eyes as the distance between them grows. They were on the knee of a stone giant. Loreth watched in horror as the beast was knocked out from a hard punch of another, sending its massive being falling back. The legs came forward and Loreth could've sworn her stomach jumped into her throat with the legs smacked into the mountainside, the side that the other half of the company was on.

"No! Kili!" Thorin shouted in despair. He and everyone watching scrambled to see the damage--to see if anyone had survived. Much to everyone's surprise and great relief, there all the dwarves sat, whole and uninjured. The relieved smile that came over Thorin's face made her heart swell.

She went to take a step and that's when it all went downhill—er mountainside more like. The rock was too slippery under her wet shoes. Her foot slipped, her weight going out from under her. She let out a yelp and tried like hell to hold onto something on the rock face.

"Loreth!" Cried Thorin. He leaned down, with the help of the others to try and grab her but she was just out of reach.

Her breathing was staggered, her eyes wide. A fall from this height was certain death and nothing more. She went to reach for Thorin's hand, their finger trips were so close. Her heart was pounding in her ears. The sheer fear of her predicament combined with being to close, just a fingertips touch away and it not being nearly enough to hold on. Just as that small fleet hope got smaller and smaller, that's when the hand she had holding onto the cliff, slipped. She screamed as she fell a couple more feet. Thankful to whatever God was up there that she was able to hold on again.
