A God, A Goddess

It's with absolute care and stealth
That I adjust my head against my pillow
Because with the two of you beside me, asleep like this ...
I long for nothing more to admire you
Before I too drift away
Drift away and join you in the same sacred realm

The room, bathed in shades of darkest blue
Midnight,
Ultramarine,
And indigo
And the window, which we've left open
To play a teasing breeze against us
As we lay atop the cool sheets

You and I fell into bed together first
Your surrender to the soft night near instant
As I ran my hand lightly against your stomach
Your chest
Over and over and over
Up
And down
Slow, soothing strokes
Because you deserve the gentlest touch
And I'm always so eager to deliver

And she
She crept in later
Once the rest of the house fell quiet
Snuck across the hall from her room
As she's done every night since I arrived
Because the truth is simple:
We cannot stand to be separated
And now that you've returned to us
Now that two's become three again
The pull's even stronger
And as you breathed you sleep-filled sighs
I swore the creaks of her bare feet against the floorboards
As she approached the bed
Were really saying:
"I'm home - I'm home - I'm home -"

Her, slipping into bed beside you
Leaning across your body to bring her lips to meet mine
You, stirring and smiling
Arm pulling her along with you as you slipped back down against the mattress
And just like that, the two of you
Fast asleep
Breaths intermingling

I think
I'd like to fashion you a crown of forget-me-nots
I think
The five petaled flowers would play poetic perfection against your blond hair
Your blue eyes
And for her
I'd like to pluck cotton ball clouds down from the sky itself
Gently nestle them in her hair

And I think
The two of you are secretly a god and a goddess
Come to visit earth
