Time to Burn

"... You made it."

"I did."

The two of us, alone in a small, forgotten room, and it's almost two in the morning.

"Do you realise we never sleep anymore?"

A shared, anxious laugh between us.

"I do think about it, yes."

"And?"

"And I don't miss it, not at all. Not when it's our only time to see one another."

"... And Reggie, too."

"Of course, Reggie too."

...

... Just hours ago, Reggie: finding me, pulling me close for yet another secret moment.

And there, his lips pressed against my ear:

"You and he should have time alone together, the way you and I have had our time alone together. The way he and I have had our time alone together."

Our hands held tight,

And another frantic kiss

Before we force ourselves away

After all,

Secret moments must be just that: a moment.

Any longer and we may put ourselves in danger.

"Go to him, yes?"

...

"Tell me, then. And be honest: do I make you nervous?"

"Do I make you nervous?"

"I asked first."

"I'm not sure nervous is the proper word ..."

"What, then?"

"I don't know - I can't say how to define it."

"Do you feel this with Reggie?"

A shake of my head;

No guilt, just honesty.

Because, in the end ...

"... It's just ... different. You're different. We're different."

"I see."

Different's not bad, or wrong.

Different's just ... well, different.

The two of us, circling the room slowly, yet moving ever closer to one another.

"Your turn now. Same question."

"... Same answer."

We come to a complete stop at this

Face to face now.

Your hands, finding their way to the sides of my face

And mine, wrapping around your waist, urging you closer.

"May I kiss you?"

"Please."

Fingertips dancing lightly down my chin, guiding my face back to yours.

It's like coming home again

Home

After being away

For far, far too long.

"... I spend an embarrassing amount of time thinking about kissing you -"

So it's not just me, then?

"- And leaving endless kisses all over your body."

My poor heart, gone into overdrive

The heart that never had a chance.

"... Tell me. Tell me ..."

"Tell you?"

"... Why are you fire?"

I'm proud of myself for being able to manage the words

Though they're but a hushed whisper.

"... Come here, yes?"

I don't get a straight answer -

I don't know why you're fire.

But here's what I do know:

Lips meeting

Urgent kisses

Your hands stroking at my neck

My tongue meeting yours

You and I, here

Moaning and pressing against one another

Tugging at my waist, guiding me to the nearest table, pushing me back against it

You lean back to look at me, tease me, but I won't allow it:

I need you

Need you in the most literal sense

Us

Grabbing, pulling

Laughing, even

Because that's the sort of thing people do when they're pent up

And you and I, we're beyond hopelessly pent up

It's time to seek our relief

Lose the clothes

They're gone, or at least, out of the way

Pushed aside, or down

Out of the way enough

For us to finally touch each other

The way we've been waiting to touch each other

I want you -

You are what it is to want

And I've been edged for weeks, months when it comes to you

Yet when I beg your name into your ear

You shake your head and put your hand to work against me first

It's a slow build

But once it catches, I'm doomed

Your fingertips and tongue are made of flames, after all

Finally - finally - finally -

Your hands, gripping my thighs, sliding up to my hips, my waist

Holding me secure as you slowly press into me

Yes, yes, yes -

This

This is what it means to burn

Our shared relief

Our hunger

And my realising

That I've been waiting for you since forever

"Evan -"

"Y/N -"
