"Straight And Narrow" -The Whiskey Charmers
April 12th, 2013 9:34am
Brian's hand grasped around yours as you slid against the abandoned building wall, a giant smile plastered on yours as you tried to stay quiet.
The flashlight beams just barely passed you as you covered your mouth with your hand to repress your breathing—eyes darting around the room as you hid.
"Go, go, go." Tim grabbed your arm as you three moved swiftly down the hallway, brushing through the trees and shrubs.
"Trespassing wasn't exactly the brightest idea, huh?" Tim heaved over an abandoned car as a strained laugh left his lips.
"Maybe, maybe not." You leaned against the car, catching your own breath as you believed you've gotten far enough from the building.
"You're insane." Brian punched your shoulder, a warm feeling coursing through you at him grabbing your hand moments before.
"You know, Brian," you stopped before looking at him, your words cut by your lip trembling, your feet taking a step back.
The goddamned frown covered his face.
"What's wrong?" His voice was the same, him stepping towards you, acting like nothing was different. His voice called out to you, your feet taking multiple steps back.
You could only close your eyes as a different voice called out your name.
"Hey, you alright?" The feeling of Tim's hand on your shoulder seemed to help you come back to the present moment, your thoughts jumbled.
"Yeah, yeah." You waved your hand, rubbing your temple. "Just zoned out is all."
The memory was almost corrupted, you couldn't remember what happened after that, or what Brian even looked like then. It's just the frown you could remember.
The feeling of the concrete picnic table's seat on your skin, your shorts not covering the underside of the thigh that touched the cold rock.
Tim threw his medication to the back of his throat before downing some water from the bottle that sat in front of him.
"Are those still helping?" Jay asked, panning his camera towards Tim. "Yep." Tim replies before shoving the bottle of pills into his pocket. "Taking one every few hours, just to be safe."
He picks up his cigarette, eyes locking back onto Jay. "Is that how many you're supposed to take?" The smoke follows the direction of the wind as you tune out the background sound of cars passing. "For now." Tim takes a drag of his cigarette.
"I guess I've just been kinda.. paranoid after seeing what happened with them before." Tim quickly reassures Jay that it won't happen again. "Just trust me."
Jay pans the camera around for a second. "You ready to go?" Tim asked as his eyes glance between you, Charlie and Jay.
"Yeah, if you are." Charlie responds as he stands up from the concrete bench. "It's either that or hang out here."
"I'm so tired of driving." Jay sighs as he makes his way towards the car. "Yeah, that makes two of us."
-
"Woah," You let out as you nearly tripped through the leaves, eyes glancing to where you tripped.
"Be careful." You heard Charlie's voice from ahead of you. "Yeah, yeah." You brushed yourself off as you ran to catch up with the guys.
"What is it?" Tim asked Jay, him simply looked back in front of where he was headed. "Just thought I saw something."
"What'd you see?"
"I thought I saw something moving over there for a second but it was nothing." He continued walking as Tim pans his camera towards where Jay had gestured towards.
"Are you positive?" You questioned. "Nowadays even thinking we saw something is enough to be worried."
"It was just a bird flying between the trees." Jay mentions as you continued to walk. "Alright then."
Your eyes wandered as you walked, the sunlight giving the plants a natural hue, the sun's rays glistening through the trees. The morning aura comforts you, your mind tuning out the guys' conversation.
Your body almost went into shock as you stared, not being able to believe it. His masked face stared back at you. You were probably staring for a little too long, a hand on your shoulder making you jump.
"Hey, you alright? Do you see something?" You glanced at Tim before looking back at where you saw Brian.
Gone.
"Yeah, yeah.. I'm alright, just enjoying the nature." You gave a lopsided smile before continuing to catch up with Jay and Charlie.
"Fuck!" A swear left Jay's lips as he fell, eyes trained onto the hole he tripped on. "Hey, wait." Charlie says, kneeling in front of the hole before digging through the leaves.
He lifts up a tape from the leaves and sticks, a laugh leaving his lips. "Jackpot!" He continues digging through, finding more.
"Not quite." Jay mentions, picking one up. "They're all melted." He flips it over and analyzed it.
"Didn't Alex say he was gonna burn those Marble Hornets tapes before he gave them to you?" Tim questioned.
"Yeah, but.. I got them from him before he did that." Jay says, pointing the camera to Tim helping dig through the hole. "Are you sure you got all of them?" Tim questioned.
"Well.. no, but.." Jay sighs. "Well what if these are his?" You asked, picking one up.
"Go check the other holes around here, see if there's any more, I'll keep looking through this one." Jay says, rustling through the leaves.
"I think this one might still play." You lifted the tape up. "The case is melted but I don't think the tape itself is."
"Lets take them all with us, better safe than sorry." Charlie picks some of the tapes up, the rest of you doing the same.
"Lets go, I think that's all of them." Jay says, standing up before brushing himself off.
