7:30amCharlie's eyes met yours as he hopped onto the balcony before cautiously making his way to Brian's.
He embraced you, an expression of concern never once leaving his face. "I heard Dad this morning, I'm sorry I couldn't get to you in time."
"It's alright, Charlie, don't worry about it. I'm safe." You looked up at him.
"Yeah, but you can't stay with him forever, you know. You still have to go to school, and shit like that."
"Yeah, yeah.. I know. But I can't go back while Dad's there. He'll rip my head off." Charlie let out a sigh. "I'll see what I can do. For now, stay with him." Charlie's eyes met Brian's as a smile formed on your brother's face. "I know he'll keep you safe."
Charlie soon left the balcony, hopping back over to your own.
Brian turned back to you, before his eyes lit up.
"I want you to have this." He said as he dug through a small box of collectibles, pulling out a small bracelet made of different multicolored pieces of string. A few small circles with letters on them hung from the string, spelling out your name. He pulled out another, similar but with his name spelled out.
"Tim gave me a friendship bracelet set thingy for my birthday as a joke when we were like, thirteen, but I thought..- y'know.." he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. "This might be kind of childish and you might not like-" you interrupt him.
"I love it."
His eyes lit up. "Actually?"
"Of course, this is really fucking sweet." You smile at him, his gentle grin warming your soul.
You point to the one with his name spelled out. "I want this one." He nods, tying it around your wrist. You gaze at the multicolored string, your smile never seeming to leave.

8:32amAnxiety is a worm, small and twisting in your gut, writhing and trembling. It feeds on your thoughts, growing fat and strong, until it is big enough to swallow you whole.
That's how you feel now, after waking up in the middle of the woods. Nothing is familiar to you.
The light shines through the leaves in the trees, sparkling and showering you in bursts of sunshine. You carry on, ambling, not rushing, taking your time.
Your feet crush the crumpled remains of autumn, frozen and dead, waiting to be quilted in snow. The day is too bright. It is too sunny.
It doesn't match the mood, the season. The birds are singing, chirping away the tune of their lives, but it seems wrong. More like screaming than serenading. You continue on, slowly making your way through the forest.
'You can't see the wood for the trees.'
The saying drifts through your mind, your subconscious forcing it's way through. No.
No remembering today.
Today is all about the present. The here and the now. You smooth down the peeling bark of a tree, pressing the wooden skin back against it's body, hoping to fix it. Heal it in a way you couldn't heal yourself.Even that looked wrong so you ripped it off, discarding the shredded remains and moving on along the path that you were creating as you went along.
Your eyes rested onto Jay, his body laying out on the ground. You rushed towards him, shaking him awake.
He woke with a coughing fit, dead eyes meeting yours. "Wh..where are we?" His voice sounded hoarse, strained as ever.
"I.. I don't know."
It's not every day that nearly a month of memories just disappear as you wake up in the middle of the forest with no recollection.
"I'm fucking scared, Jay." Your words made him nod as he carefully got up off of the damp ground.
"I know.. I am too, it's okay." He placed a hand upon my shoulder, his eyes gentle, yet scared. You let out a shaky breath before embracing him, your arms wrapping around his lanky figure.
He gave your back a firm pat before letting go, playfully putting his hat on you. "I can't believe you still have this thing. It's holding on just barely by a thread. A thread, I tell you."
Jay laughed at your comment, his smile definitely brightening the mood, despite the current circumstances.
"Says you, that wears the same bracelet every day." He laughs, looking at the multicolored strings. You lifted up your wrist, revealing a better look at the makeshift jewelry.
He placed a hand on your shoulder. "I miss him too." You lightly smile before getting a bearing of your surroundings.
