Leni's eyes suddenly opened wide.
Bigla siyang napabalikwas sa kanyang pagkakahiga habang naghahabol ng hininga at inakalang may tubig pang nakalubog sa kanyang dibdib. She was so near to passing out that the sensation of being submerged in water caused her to have a dream about it. As a consequence of this, she started to feel a lot of anxiety whenever she thought about the likelihood that her body was still in the pool.
Napatakbo si Kit sa kanyang kinahihigaan at tinanong ito kaagad, "Hey...are you okay? Wala bang masakit sa'yo? May nararamdaman ka bang kakaiba?"
"A-anong oras na..." she questioned.
"Past two," he hastily said as he looked at his phone to check.
"I have to go home," natatarantang sabi ni Leni at akmang aalis na ito sa kanyang kama nang mapansin ang kamay nitong kinabitan ng IV drip.
"Standard procedure lang, Leni," Kit calmed her down.
Saka pa lang niya nakita ang buong pagmumukha ng lalakeng nasa harapan niya ngayon, "Wait. You're..."
"Yes, I'm one of your schoolmates in UP during law school..." he helped her remember. "...and a member of your campaign team last elections."
"Cong. Kit Belmonte?" Leni uttered in a rising tone.
"The one and only," he flashed a smile that made her heart flutter for a while.
Holy shit. What is happening to me?
"Ikaw din ba yung lalakeng sumagip sa'kin kanina?" she tried to recall the scenario they dealt with a few hours back.
"The hair says it all," he gave out a light chuckle.
"Thank you," she sweetly uttered and thought of a side joke. "And it's good to see you. I'm grateful, rather. But I really didn't mind ending up dead that way."
"Makapagsalita naman 'to o, kala mo naman talaga," Kit chortled.
Leni feebly laughed along with Kit and asked him, "Ano palang ginagawa mo dito?"
He breathed out before storytelling, "Well...I was initially invited, actually, to your get-together and all. Pero hindi ko muna pinaunlakan kasi may importante akong i-ppropose kay Kiko. Timing, sa Solaire din pala yung venue niyo. When I arrived, nakita kong nagkakagulo yung sa may pool. And at first, I didn't really recognize you not until I put you away from the water."
"Disappointed ka?" she asked jokingly.
"Sobra," he playfully nodded. "Pano kung hindi ko naagapan? Pano kung, knock on wood, natuluyan ka talaga edi magiging kasalanan ko pa kung ba't ka namatay?"
"Baliw," Leni laughed hard and returned to her normal state. "Well...how have you been? I mean, we haven't seen each other for years. I still do accept some of your invitations and emails from your city representative but to see you like this..."
