"Stop escaping your reality, Lens. That's not how healthy healing works," While on the phone, Lourdes was chatting with Leni, who was in the process of packing his suitcase with enough clothes for a week's worth of wear.
"Saang news outlet mo na naman nabasa yang balitang yan? Hindi ako tumatakas, baliw," she rebutted. "I'm going to meet some friends there. Have fun, ganun. Ilang birthdays na nila ang di ko nadaluhan dahil lang sa pagiging bise ko nitong mga nakaraang taon."
"Wag mo nga akong utuin, Leonor. Akala mo naman hindi kita kilala," she retorted at the other line. Lourdes was in the middle of cleaning her whole house too.
Namewang na lang si Leni sa sarili at napabuntong-hininga, "Lou, kung makapag-react ka rin, akala mo habang buhay na ako maninirahan don. I'm only laying off for one week, ano ka ba. Andami ko pang gagawin sa OVP for the transition. I'm not going to hide nor run. Ngayon pa ba na alam na alam na ng publiko ang totoong nararamdaman ko."
"Exactly!" she loudly squealed dahilan upang medyo ilayo ni Leni ang telepono sa tenga. "All eyes are on you now, dear sister. With Bongbong's marriage pushing through...they're watching your next move. And when word comes out na nasa New York ka, it'll definitely mean 'moving on' or 'healing process', somewhere in that context."
"Sige nga, when did I give a damn about other people's insights about me? Lahat ng ginawa ko nitong mga nakaraang araw ay para sa sarili ko at hindi para pagpiyestahan nila. Wala silang karapatang diktahan ako. It's my life, thus I am entitled to my choices and decisions. Fake news nga di ko mapatul-patulan," she baffled back.
"Ay nako 'teh, bahala ka na na sa buhay mo. Mas matanda ka kaysa sa'kin, mas nauna kang nagkaisip, malaki ka na. Kayang-kaya mo na buhay mo dyan," pagsuko ni Lourdes sa pagsipat sa kapatid.
"Aba dapat lang," she half-joked.
"Pasalubong namin ah," Leni's sister teased.
"Marami akong..." she muttered as if looking for something. "...sama ng loob dito, baka gusto mo?"
"Napaka-others mo talaga, bahala ka nga dyan," she scoffed yet they both ended up laughing at each other. "But hey, in all seriousness, are you really fine about all these?"
Leni sighed over her sister's stubbornness, "Why wouldn't I, Lou? I don't want to waste my time over something that I couldn't get ahold of, that I can't control. I value my inner peace more than anything and taking that path will lead me to happiness and no regrets."
"You do know you could be happier than that, right?" pangungulit pa nito.
She sat down on one side of the bed after wrapping things up and getting her suitcase ready, "I do, pero marunong rin akong makuntento sa kung ano man ang meron ako. At this point of my life, I don't aim nor ask that much anymore, Des. Whatever will be, will be."
"Leni naman..." her sister mewled.
"Ay nako. May flight pa akong hahabulin, I'll hang up now," Leni did the honor of cutting off the drama.
She heard her breathe in defeat on the other line, "Okay, fine. Message me when you get there, mmm? Ingat sa biyahe Ate!"
As soon as the phone call was over, she let out the longest, most profound sigh she ever did throughout the entire year. She surveyed the entirety of her condo unit while she was drinking her coffee, na medyo hindi na mainit dahil sa iringan nila ng kapatid na si Lourdes, observing each and every detail and corners of it. In the back of her mind, she automatically recalled all of the lies that she had previously told about her living in this place by herself, and she compared those lies to how barenaked she was in front of the public today. It was definitely worth it. He was worth it.
