XXIII: The Maid In Between

Bongbong was awakened by chirping birds and the cuckoos of the roosters around their mansion.

He moaned and winced as he attempted to open his eyelids and sit up from the bed that was propped up by his headboard. He continued to keep his eyes closed as he checked out the situation. He slowly opened his eyes and recognized that he was in his former room as he came to the conclusion. As a consequence of this, he became agitated and began to try to recall the activities that he had participated in the day before. However, the only response that came from his brain was a loud bang, which caused waves of pain to travel throughout his body.

The appearance of someone he had not expected to see further astonished him.

He quickly recognized who she was just based on the length of her hair. She did nothing more than sit down with her arms crossed and then lay her head and neck down on top of it against the bed. Hinay-hinay na hinawi ni Bongbong ang kanyang buhok patagilid and his intuitions were definitely right. Now that her hair was out of the way of her nose and mouth, he was able to hear the faint sounds of her snoring as well as her breathing. Kahit pinapatay siya sa sakit ng kanyang ulo, the moment he saw her angelic face made the pain become bearable compared to earlier.

The door shockingly clicked open and it was Manang who jolted, "Ay!"

He jested a 'shh' action and uttered softly, "Good morning, Manang."

"S-sige po...labas muna ako..." the maid shyly uttered.

"No, no, no...I'm going outside," halos pabulong na nitong tugon at dali-dali siyang umalis sa kanyang higaan.

He pulled her to the bed and laid her bare back on it as she began to feel the linen sheets of it. He carried Leni to an extent in her arms and only slightly pushed her to get there. Kinabahan pa ito dahil bigla siyang umungol at inakala'y magigising ito, buti na lang ay nanatili pa rin itong tulog. Before leaving the room, he wrapped her in his blanket and, for some reason, found himself bending forward and kissing the side of her cheek as he tucked her hair behind her earlobe.

"Akala ko ho papasok kayo?" Bongbong asked Manang.

"Magdidilig lang sana ako ng mga halaman ninyo sa loob Sir, kaso nagising na kayo...ipaghahanda ko na lang muna kayo ng makakain," she was more than delighted to serve her boss.

Nang makababa ng kusina ay agad na umupo si Bongbong sa hapagkainan. Because of the discomfort that he was experiencing at that time, he repeatedly raked and rubbed his head in an attempt to alleviate it. While Manang Rosa was heating up the soup that she had made only a few hours earlier, she was kind enough to give him some painkillers to take in the meantime while she was waiting for the soup to boil. This was then consumed by him, and not long after that, the maid began to give him rice, and after a few periods of pause, he was then presented with a bowl of hangover soup.

"Sabayan niyo na ho ako, Manang," pag-aaya nito.

"Mauna ka na, Sir. Mamaya na lang ako paggising ni Ma'am Leni," she shyly declined. "Nako, kung nakita niyo lang ho talaga kung gano kayo kalasing kagabi..."

"What happened?" he inquired just for Manang Rosa to keep him company.

"Ano po...sabi ni Ma'am, siya daw ang natawagan ng mga kaibigan niyo para kunin ka. Siya daw yung nasa speed dial niyo e, di daw kasi nila mabuksan yung phone mo dahil sa passcode," pagbabanghay ni Manang sa buong nangyari.
