Broken Promises

Chapter 28

Irene zoned out inside her room, words she has heard earlier coming from her daughter's mouth kept on running through her mind. Paulit-ulit siyang nasasaktan habang inaalala ang mga masasakit na salita galing sa sarili niyang anak. She wants to end this painful feeling, she's so tired, her tears are already dry.

"Help me, daddy.." Irene whispers, she then realized what she has said and thinks of going to the cemetery at this hour. She didn't think twice, she grabbed her car keys and her phone before leaving her room, heading directly outside. No one noticed Irene since everyone was already resting to their designated rooms.

She's driving over speed, tears were streaming down to her cheeks as she grips tightly to the steering wheel. She was about to turn when a truck suddenly appear without her knowing -

On the other hand, Kate is currently staying in her room and as always she regrets the words she has thrown to her mother. Hindi siya mapakali, her heart is beating so fast which made her uncomfortable. She feels like something happened to one of her love ones.

Imee is currently reading a book, but was interrupted when her phone suddenly rang and revealed an unknown/unregistered number, she was hesitate to answer it but ends up answering it.

Phone Call...

"Hello?" says Imee, she suddenly felt nervous but she doesn't know why.

"Hello? Is this Senator Imee Marcos?" answered from the other line.

"Yes, speaking. Is there something important you need to tell me?" Imee asked, she's caressing her heart because it's beating so fast.

"Yes. Your sister po, Ms. Irene Marcos is currently in Makati Medical Hospital po, she got into a critical car accident." the person from the other line informed, which made Imee weak and fell silent.

"W-what? O-okay, I'll be there right away, thank you for informing me." Imee replied trying her best not to panic so much, she's trembling, she don't know what to do. She grabbed her nearest bag and put her important things inside.

After putting her things in, she immediately gets out of her room heading to Kate's room. She directly knocked a couple of times which made Kate startled.

"Mama, what?" Kate asked as soon as she open the door.

"Grab your important things now, we need to go to the hospital!" Imee nervously commands Kate, she was left dumbfounded when Imee left her and went to her brother's room.

"Mama, bakit? May nangyari ba?" Kate asked following Imee, Luis on the other hand opened the door.

"Your mom got into an accident and she's in a critical condition, grab your things so we could leave. Now! Don't ask more questions and please just follow what I said!" Imee reprimands, Luis and Kate stared at each other, Kate's hands and knees began to tremble yet she manage to go back inside her room to grab her things.

Her tears started to form as she remembers how hard she was to her own mother. She still don't know what happened, they just saw each other earlier and then now she's in a critical condition. She tied her hair with a clip and went outside wearing a cardigan with her tote bag.

"Will she be okay?" Kate worriedly asked Imee while they were still in the car on their way to the hospital. Imee weakly smile at her, she's not sure what to say so she made her lean on her shoulder and kissed her forehead.
