You were humming in the hallway, daydreaming while walking along- which has become normal over the week following you officially joining the Nekoma High boys volleyball club as their manager. And, like what has become your usual routine, you zoned out of reality. Meaning you're more likely to get hurt or run into someone.
And that's what happened.
"Oh! I'm so sorry!" You quickly got up after having fallen onto your butt- a result from bumping into someone in the hallway. You bowed to a perfect 90 degrees as a form of apology.
A boy's voice sounded from above you. "No! No! Please don't apologize! It's my fault! I wasn't looking down, like I should have! I'm sorry!"
You looked up to see a silver haired boy bowing at you. You straightened your posture. "Pretty hair...."
The boy shot up, straightening his back to tower over you. "Thanks!?" He clearly didn't expect that response.
Your eyes widened upon taking in his full height. "Tall! Really tall! Even taller than Tetsu!"
He tipped his head to the side. "Who?"
"A third year in my club."
"Oh. Who are you?"
"Oh! Forgive my rudeness! I'm Yaku Y/n and I'm a first year!"
The boy smiled. "Haiba Lev! I'm also a first year!"
"Nice to meet you!"
Lev nodded. "Good to meet you too!"
You thought for a moment, hung up on his name. "Lev... Lev.... Isn't that Russian for lion?"
He nodded excitedly. "Yeah! How'd ya know?"
You blushed slightly, embarrassed to have this kind of conversation with a complete stranger you bumped into. "I always liked how Russia looked, and had a fascination with Russian culture. I learned a bit of the language...."
"Really?!"
You nod. "Mhm. Are you Russian?"
"Well... kinda."
"Kinda?"
"I'm half Russian, half Japanese. But I don't know any Russian cuz I've lived in Japan my whole life."
"Oh. Makes sense. You do look Russian, so that part is pretty obvious."
Lev nodded. "Yeah. You're pretty short, ya know."
You gave one of your most pleasant smiles. "Yup! Only 5'2"! You look about... hmm... 6'4"?"
"Yup! That's my height!"
An idea popped into your head. "Have you ever played volleyball before, Lev?"
"No, why?"
"Would you like to learn and play for our team?"
The silver haired boy tipped his head to one side. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, I'm the manager for the boys volleyball club here, and we could use someone as tall as you. All you'd need to do is learn about the game, and all the rules. But I think you'd make a great volleyball player! Whaddya say, Lev?"
Lev thought for a moment, then smiled brightly. "Sure! I'll join!"
You held out a piece of paper to him. "This is a club application. Just fill it out, give it to me, and I'll get it to the captain and coach. Then, if you're able to, you can come meet the team after school today."
He eagerly took the form from your hand. "Alright! Wait... how would I be able to find you?"
"Hmm... gimme your phone."
He dug his phone out of his pocket and handed it to you. "Ok, but why?"
"I'll give you my number and you can text me when you've filled the form out. Then, we can meet up so I can get your application and get it to Coach Nekomata and Tetsu. Sound good?" You put your number into his contacts, handing his phone back to him.
He nodded happily, looking at his phone screen once the phone was safely in his grasp. "Sounds great, Y/n! I'll see ya later, then!"
"See you, Lev!" You waved before turning on your heels, walking away from the ridiculously tall first year.
<Unknown: Hey, Y/n! It's Lev>
<You: Hey, Lev!>
<Lev: Can you tell me a bit about the volleyball club when we meet later?>
<You: Of course! 😁>
<Lev: 😊👍>
You giggled at the texts you received, still not paying attention to your surroundings. Yet again, you've bumped into someone.
Fortunately/unfortunately for you that person happened to be none other than your big brother, Yaku Morisuke. Luckily, neither of you fell to the ground. Morisuke hand good balance and kept himself from falling, and held onto you to keep you from falling and getting hurt.
"Y/n! Be careful! Pay attention to everything around you when walking!" Like always, he was fretting over you.
You giggled while looking up at him, turning off your phone and putting ir into your uniform jacket pocket. "Sorry, Mori. I'll be more careful."
"Good." He looked at you, eyeing you up and down- raising a brow as he studied you. "What were you smiling about when you were busy looking at your phone?"
You averted your gaze, not wanting to look into his eyes. "Um... nothing?"
"Oh? What's this? Sweet little Y/n-chan is lying to her beloved elder brother?" Kuroo, like the sly bastard he is, came up out of nowhere.
Kenma appeared beside the rooster headed boy. "Who were you texting? I saw your thumbs moving, so that's the only thing you could've been doing."
Within the week you've been the manager for the volleyball club, you had been able to find out a lot about their setter: Kozume Kenma. For example, he's extremely smart and perceptive, even though he's not a people person. He tends to notice things without anyone else being able to detect his eyes on them.
You flinched, looking at the ground. "Well... I met this tall boy...."
Morisuke was close to snapping the moment he heard that phrase slip past your lips. "What?!"
You jumped, quickly turning to look at the boys of the volleyball club- waving your hands in front of you and shaking your head in a sort of panic. "Not like that! We bumped into each other in the hall cuz neither of us were paying attention to where we were going! And- and! He's really tall! Like really really tall- taller than Tetsu!"
Yamamoto looked at you in awe. "Someone like that exists?!"
You nodded quickly. "Yes, and he's a first year- believe it or not! So, I handed him a form and he's gonna be joining the club today after school!"
Kuroo smiled, absolutely beaming with pride. "Good job! Your already doing an amazing job as our manager!"
You smiled, proud of yourself. "Thank you!"
Morisuke looked between you two, suspicion heavy in his gaze. "Can this boy even play volleyball? Does he have any experience with it?"
There was a long moment of silence.
Your attention was solely on the ground by your feet. "About that... he knows absolutely nothing of the sport...."
More silence claimed the area you all were standing in.
Morisuke was the first to speak. "That was kinda stupid."
