Kuroo flinched at the libero's outburst. "Hey, don't take your frustrations out on me. I didn't hit her with the damn ball. I'm just tryna help you out. Calm down, Yaku."
The short third year glared at the taller boy briefly, then turned a concerned gaze towards your still unmoving body. "Crap! I'm her big brother! I'm supposed to protect her! I should've kept her safe!"
While Morisuke was panicking, Lev had rushed over to check your head. "There's a bump and a red mark."
The libero snapped out of his trance when hearing Lev's voice, seeing him right above you. "Where?!"
Lev blinked, looking up to make eye contact with the panicking boy. "On her head?"
Morisuke deadpanned at the freakishly tall first year. "Where on her head."
"Oh." Lev moved your head slightly, gently resting it on his lap. "Here."
Your brother examined the spot being shown to him, finding that Lev was right. "Shit." The libero muttered under his breath."
Lev frowned while looking at the damage. "That... will go away, right?"
Yaku snorted. "What, you don't like her if her face isn't as pretty as it normally is?"
Lev's eyes widened. "That's not what I meant! She's still really pretty!"
The shorter boy frowns, eyes beginning to form a glare. "Watch it...." He warns.
"I meant... Y/n would be in pain with this, right? So, wouldn't it be better if it went away quickly?"
Morisuke hadn't expected that answer out of the tall first year. "I mean, yeah it'll be painful. But I don't have the slightest clue when it'll go away."
Kenma, who had disappeared soon after everyone began crowding your limp body, spoke softly from behind the boys of the team. "Maybe putting ice on it will help, at least with the swelling if nothing else."
Everyone (except you) turned their heads to look at the boy, seeing him holding an ice pack and a first aid kit.
Kuroo raised a brow at the setter. "When did you leave to get that stuff, Kenma?"
"Pretty much right after she got hit and fell to the floor."
Yaku blinked. "Thanks. Come over here with that stuff. We'll definitely need it."
The quiet second year nodded, slowly approaching where you, Yaku, and Lev were. He paused briefly- not long enough for anyone to really notice or question it- simply looking at how your head rested on Lev's lap. "Keep her head still, so it'll be easier to apply the ice pack. I don't think she'll need anything else until she regains consciousness."
Lev nodded, then looked at the ice pack in the second year's hand. "Wouldn't it be easier for me to press the ice pack against the bump?"
Kenma froze, tensing. "It would be easier... but I want to be the one do it. Why did stupid Lev have to put her head on his lap? Should've been me...."
"Kenma!" Kuroo's voice snapped the setter out of his thoughts.
"Huh?" He looked up at his friend, confused as to why his name was being called.
"Give Lev the ice pack. Yakkun doesn't have any objections since it'll be easier and we all decided it would be best for Lev to sit out for the rest of practice."
"Oh." Kenma, slowly and reluctantly, handed the ice pack to Lev.
Lev smiled, shivering slightly from the sudden cold object that he was just handed, carefully placing it against the bump on your head. "I'll take care of her for the rest of practice. I promise to work really hard everyday from here on out and improve!"
Kuroo waved him off. "I'll ya to it- for our manager's sake. Let's get back to practice. Lev, take good care of her or Yakkun might kill you!"
Lev nervously looked at the shorter third year. "You wouldn't really kill me... would you, Yaku-san?" The poor boy spoke with a shaky voice.
The libero gave him an intimidating glare. "I will kill you if something happens to my baby sister while she's in your care."
The silver haired boy gulped. "Noted. I promise I won't let anything happen while I'm taking care of her."
"Good." The libero turned his back on the first year and jogged over to join the others on the court.
Lev sighed, looking down at your peaceful face. "You're so pretty, Y/n...." He murmured, still admiring your features.
You began stirring, finally regaining consciousness. You had heard Lev's comment, but nothing else prior to it. "Thanks." You mumbled out a reply.
Lev tensed, not expecting you to respond to him. "Y-you're awake?"
"I am now."
"Did I wake you?"
"No, just kinda started waking up on my own."
"Did you hear anything other than me calling you pretty?"
"No. I just woke up when you said I'm pretty."
Lev let out a sigh of relief. "Ok. How are you feeling?"
You groaned, finally opening your eyes to look at him. You saw his hand holding something to your head, naturally assuming it was an ice pack since that spot on your head felt cold. "My head hurts."
He chuckled. "Kinda figured it would."
"What happened?"
Lev looked away briefly before making eye contact with you once again. "Yamamoto-san accidentally spiked a ball that ended up hitting your head. You kinda fell unconscious right after."
You blinked up at him. "I see. Well, I guess that's a pretty good explanation."
He chuckled quietly, nodding in agreement. "It scared all of us. It even caught Yaku-san completely off guard."
Your eyes widened briefly. "How did Mori react?"
"He was pissed. Started yelling at a few of us, sent a few threats out. Then kinda started panicking a bit. He seemed really worried about you."
You gave a small smile. "Yeah, that sounds like him."
He nodded, understanding what you were saying- it was only normal for you. "I'm just glad you're more or less alright."
You hummed. "Why aren't you practicing with the rest of the team, Lev?"
"Cuz I'm taking care of you!" He gave a genuinely innocent smile.
Your heart started beating differently.
