"You really didn't have to worry about me, Ken. I'm just waiting for the nurse... seems like she's out right now." You chuckle awkwardly, not expecting Kenma of all people to follow you into the nurse's office. In your mind, it would've made more sense for your brother or even Yamamoto to have come with you.

Kenma walked over to you, leading you to the bed and making you lay down. He took a seat beside you. "How bad does it hurt?"

"It's not unbearable, but it's definitely a noticeable pain."

He cautiously lifted his hand and gently placed it against your forehead- where the bump was. "Does this hurt?"

You wince slightly. "A bit, yeah."

His eyes flickered between yours and your lips. "Sorry." He pulled his hand away.

"It's fine." You offered a reassuring smile.

Kenma simply kept his stare on you, remaining silent for a bit before opening his mouth again. "Have you ever gotten this kind of injury before?"

You shrug. "Don't remember it if I did."

"I see."

You sigh, fully turning to face the setter beside you. "Seriously, Ken, I'm fine. You don't need to worry about me."

"You're not fine. You got a volleyball spiked at your head." He murmured.

"I'll be fine. Go back to practice. Kuroo and the coaches will lose it when they realize their setter disappeared."

Kenma shrugged. "Kuro's more or less to me running off and hiding whenever I don't want to practice or be physically active... ya know, with sports."

You let out a breathy chuckle. "You do this often?"

"Often enough for it to be normal in Kuro's eyes. He actually talked to me about it recently?"

You hummed. "Let me guess- he wants you to stop doing it?"

The quiet setter shook his head. "No. He actually asked if I was feeling alright lately since I haven't been doing within the past few weeks or so."

Your eyes widened. "Woah, really?"

He nodded. "Mhm."

"Why haven't you been sneaking away from practices lately?"

The second year simply shrugged. "Haven't really had the motivation to just run off, or escape, from practices recently."

You lay flat on your back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. You began laughing silently.

Kenma noticed this. "What's so funny?"

"You."

His eyes widened briefly, then raising a brow and looking at you questioningly. "Me?"

You nod. "Your behavior is just hilarious to me!"

Kenma frowned slightly. "Stop laughing at me."

You were laughing uncontrollably, unable to cease your laughter- even if you had wanted to stop.

Kenma let out a huff. "Fine. I warned you."

Without another word, Kenma was on top of you, hands wrapping around your wrists to pin your arms to the bed. He brought his face close to yours, but far enough to not touch. He wore a serious expression as he hovered over you.

Your eyes widened, immediately realizing the position you were in. "K-Kenken...."

"I told you to stop laughing. And did you?"

"I-"

"No. No, you hadn't ceased your laughter." He growled in your ear.

You shivered, not used to seeing this side of Kenma- a side no one's seen before. "C-can we talk about this... like, after you get off me?"

His golden eyes bore into your e/c orbs. "I had warned you and you didn't listen." He leaned closer to you, eyes slowly closing.

Before anything else could happen, the door to the nurse's office opened. The nurse finally showed up. "Hello?"

Kenma quickly got off you and the bed, cheeks burning. "What was I doing?!"

You were still in shock. You never knew he could be like that. You also never saw him move that quick for the entire duration of time you've known him.

You stayed laying on the bed, but decided to gain the nurse's attention. "Hi, I'm Yaku Y/n- the manager for the boys volleyball club. I got hit in the head pretty hard with a volleyball. The coach told me to come here and have you take a look."

The nurse nodded and made her way over to you, stopping to look at Kenma. "Do you need something as well?"

He shook his head. "I just walked with her here to make sure she actually arrived alright. I'll be getting back to practice. I'll see you later, Y/n."

"O... ok. See ya, Kenma."

"There it is again. She never calls me 'Kenma'. Why has she been calling me 'Kenken' less?" Without even sparing you another glance, Kenma leaves the nurse's office and heads back to practice while you get checked by the nurse.

The nurse hummed as she finished the examination. "Looks like a minor concussion. Nothing too serious, just make sure to rest a bit. Maybe stay home for a week or so."

You nod, staying in the bed. "Ok. Is it ok if I text the coaches and team that I'll be absent from practices for a while?"

She nodded, not looking at you. "Go ahead. I'll inform your parents and teachers of the situation. Your parents should hopefully come to pick you up. And all your teachers will make sure to gather your work for you so you can do it at home when you start feeling well enough to do it."

"Ok. Thank you."

The nurse walked away, giving a slight nod.

Once Kenma got back to the gym, Kuroo was all over him.

"Kenma!" The taller boy had immediately noticed him, calling him over and gaining the attention of everyone else in the gym. "Come here. Now."

The setter slowly, and nervously, made his way over to his childhood friend. "What is it, Kuro? Why did you have to be so loud and obvious about it?"

Kuroo gave a slight glare to the younger boy. "Why did you just suddenly walk off without saying a word to anyone?"

Kenma raised a brow, confused. "Don't I always skip out on practices?"

"Not recently. And you usually don't come back when you do leave. So what's going on?"

"Nothing."

Kuroo wasn't having any of that this time. "Liar. Tell me what's going on right now."
