After that whole debacle, the rest of the meal was fairly quiet. King Drayden had some small talk with Princess Echina about her stay and some more talk with me about what my father plans to do with the new trade routes. I had a feeling that the other folks in power may feel a little more threatened by the Thornweathers since we gained more power after acquiring the trade routes from Vendia. Hopefully, King Drayden respects me and Prince Orion's mutual feelings towards our engagement rather than forcing our future marriage to quell the political factions. I just need to figure out how to redirect their attention to something else, or maybe increase the power of the other dukedoms.
I went back to my room to have Mary touch up my outfit and make-up since I was going to a formal meeting with the king and Prince Orion.
"Hopefully everything turns out smoothly." I sigh.
"I think it will be fine. My lady is close with the royal family." Mary says, pinching up a piece of hair back into place.
"Should I attend the meeting as well?" Henry speaks up. Hmm.
"Well, it's up to you. I didn't introduce you yet, only told them that I brought a guard and a maid." I said.
"Well, my lady can still say that she is interested in another. This was the main reason why Sir Henry initially tagged along. Mary points out. I blush slightly.
"It's up to you, Henry, if you want to come." I say. He thinks for a moment.
"Why not, it seems like it will be interesting." He shrugs, smiling slightly.
"Then you'll need to fix your hair!" Mary declares.
"?" Henry looks confused.
"You'll be meeting with the king. It would be good to look the best." I laugh at his stunned face.
"Bring that chair over, I'll attend to you once I'm done with my lady." Mary says, pointing to one of the dining chairs.
"...." Henry goes and drags the chair to the vanity mirror, sitting down once he felt the chair was in a good spot.
We head towards the meeting room once everyone was ready. I had Mary go and gather some information on anything that could be remotely useful. Royalty gossip was not only informative but also very juicy.
I glance over to my right, admiring Henry's dashing looks. Mary slicked his hair back a bit and straighten up his clothes, increasing his gentlemanliness. Surprisingly, I had decided to wear a deep navy blue dress today that accidentally complimented Henry's dark raven locks. We were accidentally matching. Is this the power of a webnovel? The ease of these romance events kind of scared me.
"...Lady Annelise?" Henry leans in close to my face suddenly. Oops. I forgot I was staring at him intensely.
"Err... yes?" I asked, looking away ever so casually. I totally wasn't checking you out and all that.
"Uh, are we going in?" He says confused.
OH! We were currently just standing in front of the meeting room. I was going to announce my presence but got distracted.
"Ahem, please announce my arrival." I say to the guard standing next to the door. He was looking at us a little funny. What, never saw a duke's daughter admiring her knight? Well, actually neither have I, so maybe that is a little weird. Eh.
