Secret Cove, Littleroot Town OutskirtsWhen Brendan had suggested that May take Max and Misty to the beach to help them learn their Powers, she was doubtful. After all, she didn't even need to be around water to use hers. She simply just-
"Wait, how do I summon the water I use?" May realized. "It just happens when I need it to."
"You're extracting moisture from the air around you," Kyogre grumbled. "Sort of like what you humans call a "de-hu-midi-fer."
"You mean a dehumidifier?" May asked. "Hold on, how do you know what a dehumidifier is?"
"I'm telepathically linked, not just with you, but with every other Legendary Pokémon in the world, mortal. And some of them are more.... Interested the things you mortals make while trying to distract yourselves from the inevitability of the end."
"I'm pretty sure we made dehumidifiers to make life more comfortable, not as a distraction."
"Both are the same to me, mortal."
"Can you stop calling me "mortal"?"
"No..."
"Ha!"
"....Mortal."
"Damnit," May sighed, deciding to look past her Legendary's attitude. "Well, can you explain how I extract moisture from the air?"
"That's literally all there is to it. Whenever you need to use your Powers, your Aura begins extracting moisture from the air around you. Of course, there are other ways to summon water as well. When you're by a body of water, you'll automatically magnet to using that instead of the air as your water supply. And you can also use your body's own water supply, but this is pretty dangerous so it's not exactly a good idea. Granted, if you had absolutely no other way of using your Power, then you'd really have no say in the matter."
"This is a stupid question, but why is that method dangerous?"
"You need water to live, mortal. If you use your own water supply, you need to replace it eventually. Else you'd dehydrate. And since you mortals are what, sixty or seventy percent water? You'd almost instantly notice the toll it would take on you."
"So, why weren't they able to use their Powers back in the warehouse?"
"It's almost like there were people who use fire sapping the moisture from the air," Kyogre snorted his response. "Not a problem for you, clearly... But for your two new conscripts? It's gonna be a bit of a problem. And unlike you-"
May promptly tuned him out, knowing where he was going with that. She shook her head, more frustrated with her Legendary's attitude than anything else. Why was that now a problem with him? He said he didn't care about what she did a week ago, when they first talked.
May sighed, before brushing off the incident. Right now, she had to focus on teaching her Lieutenants. Misty and Max were in their swimwear, and she was still wearing her usual attire, the red jacket, white blouse, and blue biker shorts.
The others were also there, Brendan included. She supposed they were keeping watch to make sure they weren't discovered, but if this place was even half as secret as Brendan had said it was, then she wasn't too concerned. As it was, the days were getting shorter and certainly colder. Winters in Hoenn weren't the most bitter or the most intense, but it could certainly get cold enough to keep most people off the beaches when winter rolled around.
