Mt. Silver Summit (Campsite)
After Brendan and Groudon ended their conversation, Brendan thought for a bit.
"Primal State, huh? I'll tell Steven, May, and the others about it. And after the meeting, I'll train to achieve it. Groudon might not think it's possible for a Patron, but I can't shake the feeling that it's possible. Speaking of, I should probably get May up. It should be around six. And I can hear everyone else stirring. Well, apart from Steven, anyway." He rested on May's shoulder, relieved to hear her gentle snoring. "She actually did it. She kept her powers active for an entire night, and she survived, despite her inexperience. Sorry I doubted you, May." He gently shook her, saying, "May, it's time to head out."
"Huh? Wha?!" She jolted awake, and upon doing so, the water they slept on destabilized, sending both of them crashing to the floor.
"Ow," they said in unison, laying on the floor.
"Ugh," Brendan muttered, holding his back. "You okay?" He asked May.
"Yeah, I think so," she said, holding her back as well. "You?" He nodded reassuringly. They both got to their feet, and rushed outside. The others were already awake, and were sitting around the campfire, eating some eggs for breakfast. The couple joined the others and grabbed some breakfast. While they ate, they talked about their plans.
"So, we'll head out immediately after we eat," Red said, between bites. The others nodded in agreement.
"Actually, I've been meaning to ask," May spoke, pausing to talk. "Where is the Tree of Beginning?"
"It's beyond Pewter City and Mt. Moon," Ash explained. "In the northern reaches of Kanto. But, I guess most of you already knew that." The others nodded, but flashed grateful expressions at him.
"It doesn't sound too far," Claire said, confused. "So why are we heading out now?"
"It might seem close," Red explained. "But the journey there is no joke. And from what we can gather, there could be storms today. Those will slow us down. Moreover, due to this being an emergency meeting, Patrons are expected to get there as early as possible. If everyone shows up ahead of schedule, the meeting can begin early." Red looked at the others. "Is everyone ready?" Everyone nodded, but Brendan spoke up.
"Actually, there is something I need to tell you guys. I had a weird dream last night."
"Brendan, is this really that important?" Green asked.
"Yes it is. Because I learned something vital about Harley," he cleared his throat. "But, it is a long story, so I'll tell you guys on the way there. Fly close." Everyone nodded, and Brendan whistled. Skar appeared shortly after, followed by Ash's Staraptor, Wally's Altaria, Phoenix, and Steven's Metagross. Red brought out his Charizard, and Blue brought out his Pidgeot. Green mounted Charizard with Red, and Yellow was going to fly with Blue. The others all mounted up, and prepared to fly. May got onto Skar, and Claire was going to fly on Phoenix.
"You ready, May?" He asked. She nodded. "Alright, let's go. Skar, fly, but keep up with the others." The Armor Bird trilled a reply, running to a cliff.
"Uh, Brendan, what's Skar doing?" May asked, becoming progressively more and more concerned as Skar got closer to the edge.
"Just trust her," he assured her. "We always do this." He added as Skar leapt off the cliff, and dived down towards sea level. May screamed as they plummeted, wrapping her arms around Brendan, who just shouted, "Whoo-hoo!" As they continued to fall, a forest became visible. In a split second, Skar leveled off, just above the trees.
"You alright, May?" He asked.
"Y-yeah," May said, recollecting herself. "I just thought we were going to crash into the ground." Skar muttered, hearing her lack of faith.
"Ah, she's just kidding Skar," Brendan assured the Steel - Flying Type, rubbing her neck. He looked back at May. "Skar likes diving, it's not as tiring as flying. Not to mention that it helps her stretch her wings. And she's a bit of an adrenaline junkie." He rested his hand on Skar. "Slow up, Skar. We need to fly with the group. I got some stuff I need to tell them. Don't worry, they shouldn't be too far behind." Skar sighed, but turned around and flew to meet the others.

In the Sky, heading towards the Tree
"Get distracted, Brendan?" Green asked as he and May flew back to the others. They were all on their way to the Tree of Beginning.
"Sorry, but I couldn't resist, and Skar had the exact same idea."
"So you are a birdbrain," Blue laughed.
"This coming from the Patron of a bird," Brendan retorted. "You basically are the definition of a birdbrain."
"If you two are done," Red said, intervening. "Let's get to the Tree. Post haste. And Brendan, tell us what you learned." He nodded. Everyone flew in a group, flying just close enough to hear each other. He told everyone about what he saw, starting off with what Harley told him. When Brendan paused, Red growled. The others were horrified.
"So, that's his plan?"
"Yep. Motives too. And I also got some good insight into his one ability I mentioned. It seems to resemble Dream Eater, but on a near incomprehensible level. It's pretty bad."
May gulped, her hair blowing in the wind as they flew. "And he said he's been sparing me from that because he already has something planned for me?"
"It seems so. And before any of you ask, I believe he was telling me the truth. Even though it was a dream, I could feel the power he had. In that moment, I realized that he had no reason to lie about his plans. He's definitely strong, and I'm not entirely certain that we'll be able to take him on as things stand. Our allies don't matter. He'd be more than a match for all of them."
"What if that was only part of the dream?" Steven suggested, his voice slightly tinged with fear. "Maybe he's actually not that strong?"
"You're absolutely right," Brendan said, hearing everyone sigh. "He said he's ten times stronger, and he's getting stronger every night. Like I said, that's why he told me his plans. He's powerful enough to defeat us, he doesn't need deceit now."
"So, it's suicide to fight him?" Yellow asked, her hair flying wildly in the wind as she looked at him. Claire looked concerned, and Wally remained silent.
"Not quite," Brendan said. "Because I also saw something that could be a counter weapon. I saw Groudon rise out of the volcano, and he had veins of pure energy coursing across his body. I had them to. Groudon called it "Primal State"," he looked at his hand. "I've never felt anything like it, unrelenting strength. Any exhaustion or fear I had was gone. I genuinely felt invulnerable."
"So all we have to do is unlock it?" Steven asked. "And we'll win?"
"I think it's our best shot," Brendan replied. "But, there are two problems. The first one, after the Primal State ended, I was overwhelmed with an immense feeling of exhaustion. Like, ten times worse than the exhaustion you feel after using your powers too much. So it could be deadly to the user. And the second problem is that Groudon doesn't know if it's possible for a Patron to use Primal State in the real world. No Patron ever achieved it in the past."
"So, it could be impossible to achieve?" Blue asked. "And even if it's possible, there's still a chance it'll kill the person using it? Well that's really helpful."
"I don't know if it's possible, but I'm going to try. If there's even a zero-point-one percent chance it's possible, then I'm not going to give up."
"You idiot," Green exclaimed. "Alright, say that you achieve it? Groudon said that there's a chance that a human would die trying to use it, right? So what if you die using it?"
"Err, let's cross that road when we get to it," Brendan replied. "Remember, it's only a theory, after all."
"Hold on for a second," May said before Green could tell Brendan he was an idiot. "Brendan, I know you're doing this to protect me, but I don't want you to do anything that'll get yourself killed."
"Trust me, anything I do to protect you will only kill one man," Brendan promised. "And that's Harley."
"Aye," Wally agreed. "None of us are going to stand by and let a friend die."
"Indeed, we're going to take him down," Steven declared, surprising everyone. "I won't stand idly by and let a good friend die!"
"Steven, aren't you in a good mood!" Green exclaimed. "What all changed?"
"I guess I did," he shrugged. "But that's not what's important right now. Right now, we need to focus on getting to the meeting."
Meanwhile, somewhere else....
"Bah! Those damn brats! I was this close!" Harley snarled, looking a little worse for wear.
"Well, now what?" Drew asked. "Those two got away, and they've managed to stay ahead of us so far. And to top it all off, you woke up rather sick."
"Bah," he hissed, coughing. "My health is none of your concern. I'm only in this state because of that bastard of a Patron," he coughed. "If that pest Birch hadn't had his little Legendary Groudon on standby, I wouldn't be in this state."
"Wait, Birch is the Patron of Groudon!?" The green-haired boy exclaimed.
"Of course he is, you idiot! Why do you think he's staying close to that Patron of Kyogre, May?"
"And May's a Patron as well!?"
"Of course she is!" Just thinking about the brunette Coordinator filled Harley with rage. He punched through a tree, imagining that it was May. "And they're likely on their way to the Tree of Beginning for the Meeting." He ripped his hand out of the tree, his hand covered in blood.
"Then shouldn't we be heading there, too?" Drew demanded. "I can take Brendan out then!"
"Ahaha," Harley laughed. "Believe me, when the time comes, you'll be the one dealing with him, I promise. But, we aren't ready yet."
"So shouldn't we be ready to go?"
"Are you kidding?" Harley sneered. "No, we aren't going to the Meeting, we won't have enough time. But don't worry, I still plan to sow chaos at the Meeting." He pulled out a phone. "Stay here." Drew nodded. Harley walked into the forest, getting out of Drew's earshot.
"Bogdan," he asked. "It's me. Tell your little faction that it's time. Strike after the meeting ends; we might still be able to get some allies. If any choose to side with us, then get them out safely." He was silent for a few moments. "Good. Oh, and one final thing: the Patron of Kyogre, bring her to me. Make sure she's alive, I want the pleasure of killing her myself. But feel free to use force. She's got the Patron of Groudon with her...." He paused. "Yep, that's him. Deal with him." He hung up the phone, smirking. "Well, Bogdan, we'll see how useful you truly are, Patron of Genesect."
He walked back to Drew, and grinned. "Hmm, irritating as he is, he's a good ally. So I can't risk dealing with him. I'll just have to find out how to kill May without him finding out. I suppose I could send him after Brendan, if Bogdan fails."
"So, who'd you call?"
"One of our allies, the Patron of Genesect."
"So, if we're not going to the Meeting, should we continue pursuing the Patron of Heatran?"
"No, let them go," Harley replied, much to Drew's surprise. "Trust me, they'll be dead soon enough. But we'll be busy."
"Busy what?"
"Preparing for war," Harley cackled, his amulet twinkling and the adventurine bracelet glimmered weakly. "Come now, it's time to continue training you."
To be continued......

So, there's chapter 23, everyone! The next chapter will be the Meeting, and as I've said I'm working on a side story, for the Patron of Heatran, and I'm going to upload that before continuing this one, so that all of you know how he fits in. His story won't be as long as this one, I promise. And once I've uploaded the third chapter of that book (not counting the prologue), then I'll resume this story! I just like uploading things in a semi chronological order. During that time, if you want to create a Patron, please do. Just let me know, so that I can add them to the next chapter!

Anyways, that's about it for now, so I'll talk to you guys soon!
