Draco Malfoy, only child, and heir to one of the Wizarding world's wealthiest families, grew up never having to worry about anything. Of course, that also meant having his entire life planned out for him as well, with no say in it. He lived in his father's shadow being taught that anyone not of pure blood, or as wealthy as them was unworthy and beneath him. He was taught from a very early age that he was superior to everyone and to hate and discriminate against anyone not like them. He was also taught to bully others who were different, disagreed with him, and most importantly to get what he wanted. He was taught to always make sure that people were at least afraid of him, if they didn't respect him.
Those ideas didn't just apply to others, it was also the way his father treated Draco. He never showed Draco any kind of physical affection, he was strict, he expected him to do well in school and be at the top in every one of his classes. If he wasn't, then his father would constantly remind him of his disappointment. He didn't beat Draco, but he did use physical discipline to punish him if he felt he needed it. He never had a kind word to say to him, the only time he gave him any kind of praise was if Draco had done something he deemed worthy. His mother was different though, she loved Draco and spoiled him with not only material things, but also with unconditional love. She was always there to comfort him, talk to him, or just be there for him in any way he needed her to be. He loved both of his parents, but he feared his father more than he loved him.
Being Draco meant a life of leisure, but it also meant he couldn't make his own decisions, and he had a lot of pressure put on him. When he was eleven and finally went to Hogwarts, he was pressured by his father to become friends with the famous child Wizard, Harry Potter. When he failed, his father had been disappointed in him and he was then ordered to bully Harry and his two friends in retaliation for his rejection of friendship; his father repeatedly reminded him that no one treated a Malfoy like that. Trying to make his father proud, he did as he was told, making sure that he bullied Potter every chance he got. When he was 12, he was pressured to continue making Harry and his two friends lives Hell, and he did it happily seeing how pleased it made his father. When he was 13-15, his father pressured him to continue making their lives miserable for no other reason than he could. He was a Malfoy, he was the school bully, and he had a reputation to uphold.
Things began to change though and when he was 16, his life was forever changed when he was forced/pressured by his father to take the Darkmark; becoming an unwilling soldier in Voldemort's army. Thanks to his parent's association and servitude to the Dark Lord, Draco was expected to follow in their footsteps, whether he wanted to or not. Of course, not knowing any different, he took pride in being chosen by the Dark Lord for a mission that gave him a chance to make his father proud. By the time he had returned to Hogwarts after receiving the mark, his feelings were conflicted. He wanted to prove himself, but he didn't want to kill anyone; especially Dumbledore.
Torn between doing what was right and wanting to prove himself worthy, he half-heartedly went about his task, but ultimately failed, unable to kill Dumbledore as he was ordered. He was silently grateful for his Godfather Snape, completing the task for him. He was quickly realizing that he no longer wanted to be like his father and secretly hoped that Harry would defeat Voldemort. When he was 17, the war reached its peak and he had vowed to do whatever he could to ensure Harry won the battle, without giving himself away; that included lying and covering for Harry and his friends when they were brought to the Manor, letting Harry disarm him, and escape, among other things. When the final battle happened, he had no choice, but to play his part. He was surprised though, when Harry had saved not only him, but also Blaise Zabini; one of Draco's closest friends, from the fiendfyre, and his resolve to make sure Voldemort lost became stronger. He disappeared after he was rescued by Harry and joined the battle, taking out as many Death Eaters as he could, saving and helping other students.
