Harry smiled, as he finished making dinner, Draco would be home from work soon, he had owled him earlier that afternoon and told him that he had to work late again. So, Harry had decided to wait to make dinner, while he had time alone, he had tried and failed again to think of the perfect birthday gift for Draco. Everything he had thought of so far didn't seem right, he had even asked all of their friends and even though they had good ideas and he appreciated their help, none of their ideas felt right either. Maybe he should ask Narcissa? She'd know what to get him that would be the right mixture of what Draco wants and a way to show him how much Harry loves him. The more he thought about it though, he realized just how awkward that might be considering he hasn't talked to her in years. His thoughts were interrupted by Draco finally returning home.

"Hello, love." Draco greeted him smiling, as he kissed him.

"Hey, handsome." Harry said smiling. "How was your day?"

"Busy, I'm sorry I'm late again this week, I was needed last minute to help with a patient." Draco lied.

"It's alright, that's what happens when you're dating one of the best Healers there is, and besides, now I don't feel as bad when I have to work late." Harry said smiling, as they sat down to eat.

They were halfway through their meal, when Harry spoke, he had been thinking about having Draco's parents over for dinner on Draco's birthday. Their friends had suggested that he surprise him with it, but knowing how fragile and strained Draco's relationship was with them, he didn't want to do anything to push them further apart.

"You know, love, I was thinking of doing something special for your birthday this year." Harry said smiling.

"I don't need anything, I tell you this every special occasion, you're all I need and want." Draco replied smiling too.

"That has to be the sappiest thing you've ever said to me." Harry said smiling, making them both laugh. "You're getting soft in your old age, Malfoy." He teased.

"Watch your tongue, Potter, I' am neither old nor soft." Draco said annoyed. "This is entirely your fault, this is what happens when you've been dating Harry Potter for years." He added smirking.

"I'll gladly take the blame, I happen to like this side of you." Harry said smiling, as he leaned over and kissed him. "Anyway, I want to do something special for you and I've already thought it out." He added, as Draco took a drink of his wine. "I was thinking of inviting your parents here for dinner on your birthday with everyone."

Hearing that, Draco had been so shocked that he began to choke on his wine. He was coughing, as he placed his glass back onto the table, concerned, Harry got up and began patting him on the back. Finally, a few seconds later, Draco managed to breathe again, Harry was still worried, but Draco reassured him that he was okay, and he returned to his seat.

"You're sure you're okay, love?" Harry asked, Draco nodded and cleared his throat.

"Y-yes, I'm fine." Draco replied. "You just caught me off guard, that's all."

 "I'm sorry, I just thought..."

"There's nothing to apologize for, I love you, Harry, and I appreciate the thought, I really do, but I don't want my parents over for dinner. I want to spend my birthday surrounded by people who I love and who love me, not spend it dealing with my father's negativity."

"Okay, you're right, I'm sorry I brought it up." Harry agreed sadly.

"Don't be, love, your heart was in the right place, unfortunately, my father's isn't."

"Alright, no more talk about that, tell me about your day." Harry said smiling, as he changed the subject.
