The setting sun painted the sky a soft pink and purple, its light glowing off the pond's glassy surface, its warm light seemed to touch every corner of the meadow. A warm breeze rustled through the meadow, carrying with it the sweet smell of wildflowers and the rustling of the nocturnal animals who had woken from their slumber as night approached. Draco Malfoy smiled contently as he lay nestled in the arms of his saviour, Harry Potter, his head on Harry's chest. He felt calmed by the steady thump of Harry's heart beating beneath his cheek and felt a warmth spread through him as Harry's strong arms delicately pulled him closer and he ran soft fingers through Draco's hair. He closed his eyes and basked in the comfort and safety that only Harry could give him. His heart felt so full and Harry made him feel so loved and safe, things he thought he'd never feel.
Getting to this moment wasn't easy, a lot of time, patience and forgiveness had gone into it. He wasn't daft, he knew that there was still a lot more work to do before he could begin to forgive himself. His long road to redemption had started days after the war ended two years ago. The past two years had been a roller coaster of emotions for Draco and his family. After Voldemort's defeat, his father and the other Death Eaters were sent to Azkaban where they belonged, leaving him and his mother Narcissa standing alone in the courtroom.
Everyone was expecting the worst when it came to their trial but during their trial, everyone had been shocked, no one more than Draco, when Harry Potter, saviour of the Wizarding world, chose to speak on their behalf. His pleas to the Wizards Council stirred up shock and disbelief among everyone in attendance. He had gone toe to toe with the entire Wizards Council for them, risking everything and because of him they were spared from Azkaban. They were placed under magical probation for a year and released, the only person waiting for them when it was all over was Harry.
As soon as they were released, they didn't waste a second of their second chance and began their journey for forgiveness. It wasn't easy with the entire Wizarding world against them but they refused to give up. For once in his entire privileged pureblood life, Draco was a pariah, an outcast, he no longer was the prideful cocky prat that he was before the damned war. No longer was he proud to be a Malfoy, all he wanted was to be invisible, he just wanted to fade into the background. After doing some thinking, he decided that the first thing he needed to do, whether they accepted it and forgave him or not, was apologize to Harry and his mates, they deserved that from him at least.
So, he started with Harry, and to Draco's surprise, Potter had agreed to come to the newly-renovated manor. After talking for some time, Draco nervously tried to apologize over and over, but every damn time he tried, Potter would firmly cut him off. Finally, after his fifth or sixth attempt, Draco finally spoke up and angrily asked why Harry wouldn't let him apologize. To this, Harry smiled sadly and replied that it was enough for him just to see Draco trying.
Unable to control his Malfoy stubbornness, Draco had apologized anyway and Harry let him, knowing that doing it was as much for Draco as it was for him. Once he had said what he needed to, Harry had just smiled smugly at him and asked if Draco felt better and he had sighed and told him he did. From that day on, Harry would come to the manor every day, sometimes twice a day and they would just talk. Draco grew to look forward to the visits, he had been secretly in love with Harry since their fourth year. Then one night, Harry showed up at the manor unexpectedly and before Draco could say or do anything, Harry kissed him passionately.
When Harry pressed his lips to Draco's, shock was the first emotion that hit Draco and he didn't kiss him back. Pulling away quickly, Harry thought he had done something wrong. Draco found his voice and demanded to know why Harry had done that and Harry had told him that he had been in love with Draco since their fourth year at Hogwarts. Of course, Draco didn't believe him and accused him of knowing about his feelings for Harry and mocking them.
